"That is the most significant win of this current England team. This is a special team, special coaching team and that was a defining moment. I think England will really go on now and become something special. There are still some players to come back in, the competition is fantastic and I think this sets England up for a long time."

England head coach Stuart Lancaster: "It was a proper Test match, two quality sides going at it and I thought we were excellent throughout. We showed a real maturity in seeing the game out. Given the experience and form of the Ireland team and some of the relative inexperience in our team I was just so proud of them and I am delighted for them. Ireland threw everything at us but once we got that lead we just clung on."

England man of the match Mike Brown: "Every game is huge for us. They were unbeaten and we wanted to set a marker. The lads were outstanding from 1-15 and the guys on the bench. We were pretty happy at half-time but we needed to finish off the phases. The fans were like a 16th man for us today so credit to them too."

    Keith Wood
Former Ireland hooker on BBC One

"I thought England were down and out after 15 minutes of the second half. But England played really, really well to see out the game after getting back into it. Ireland lost a bit of composure, some of their kicking was a bit loose and some of their handling was loose, but a lot of that was down to the pressure they were under. England's defence was phenomenal."
