"No one has got the upper hand yet, this really is finely balanced. It's all about who has got the mental strength and who has got the most patience."

"No one has got the upper hand yet, this really is finely balanced. It's all about who has got the mental strength and who has got the most patience."
Matt Dawson
Former England scrum-half on BBC Radio 5 live
"Farrell was under pressure with that kick but he did well. You just feel every point is going to be so vital and that England have to take every opportunity."
Brian Moore
Former England hooker on BBC One
"The irony is that while both sides have had their chances it is a something and nothing offence that has resulted in the first points. That is something that will give England confidence."
No score yet but you can't fault it for intensity. Line-out penalty for England and Farrell is going to stick his boot through it. It's from 50m out, right on his limit... nailed it, that was sweet as a nut...
There is a lot of love for Mike Brown on Twitter at the moment with his performance so far.
Gareth Whalley:, external Mike Brown should be on the plane to Brazil as England goalkeeper after that diving save. #bbcrugby
David Mildenhall:, external Mike Brown all over this Irish kicking game #bbcrugby #6nations
Tom Grogan:, external Mike Brown's intelligence and balance is phenomenal. #BBCRugby #SixNations
Penalty given for that tackle by Farrell, despite his claims that he "tried to use his arms", as if he's borrowed them for the day and hasn't quite deciphered how they work. Ireland gain 50 yards, all a bit pointless from an England point of view...
Hartley finds Lawes and here comes Burrell on the barrell, and here comes Farrell... stout Irish defence, England struggling to find a killer angle with ball in hand... Billy Vunipola looks for the offload but loses it in the tackle and Ireland clear again... naughty by Farrell on Murray, a little bit late, but not that naughty...
Denis Hickie
Former Ireland international on BBC Radio 5 live
"I take my hat off to England. They had numbers there and kept knocking Ireland back."
Ireland producing quick ball at the breakdown and they'll be unhappy not to have scored there. England get a rolling maul going, giving Ireland a dose of their own poison, and the visitors are pinged. Farrell finds touch, bang on the 22.
Brian Moore
Former England hooker on BBC One
"England's defences were stretched to the full there and only just about working. England are hanging on by showing tenacity and winning the penalty but Ireland should have have come away with points."
O'Mahony with a clean line-out take, Sexton with a cross-kick to Trimble, England stretched before regathering... Ireland ship it right, Trimble comes up just short of the England try-line... England penalty, that's some macho defence...
O'Driscoll pops over a kick and Brown collects it on the run and breaks a couple of tackles. Dave Kearney makes another fine take, England captain Robshaw makes a half-break, Heaslip robs it. England not rolling away, Ireland penalty...
Wood takes at the line-out but Ireland win the penalty and Sexton punts into England territory. Best goes long to O'Mahony and the visitors string some phases together. Rob Kearney nibbles through a kick and Brown watches it dribble into touch in-goal.
Phillip Matthews
Former Ireland captain on BBC One
"England only have themselves to blame there, they butchered that chance. England are mixing up the passing and kicking so far, this really is intense."
Tremendous atmosphere at Twickenham, fevered even, and you don't say that a lot about the old place. Conor Murray clears the Irish lines and it's a fine take by Exeter wing Nowell, who then slips three tackles. Scrum time, Irish put-in, this time England get the nudge on and Heaslip is snaffled. Sexton clears, we can have a breather...
Denis Hickie
Former Ireland international on BBC Radio 5 live
"Ireland were under the cosh for a good 10 or 15 phases and looked dead in numbers. England have been very impressive."
Brian Moore
Former England hooker on BBC One
"The roar from the Twickenham crowd was as loud as I have ever heard it during that build-up. If he had held it closer to his body then that wouldn't have happened."
BUTCHERED IT! May actually dropped it in the tackle, that's a massive let-off for Ireland...
Mike Brown makes a break and here's some England pressure in the Irish 22. Farrell slips it inside to Lawes but there's no way through... Care snipes but is smothered by O'Connell, and here he goes again... TRY! Jonny May over in the right-hand corner after 17 phases... it's going upstairs...
Ireland get a shove on, Hartley doesn't hook it and it's a penalty to the visitors, which Sexton slippers into touch. O'Driscoll, mitts on the ball for the first time, swerves past Twelvetrees and it's a focused start by Ireland. Dave Kearney with a fine take but D'Arcy is hit by Farrell and coughs up the ball... Rob Kearney drops a high ball backwards, it's harem-scarem...
