"In the same way that they felt such elation two weeks ago in Rome, Scotland will now be feeling utter, utter desolation. Everything has been taken away from them at the death. It is cruel luck after the best Scottish performance I have seen for some time. It was an absorbing contest, and well played Scotland.
"While they will be massively disappointed in the Scottish camp, France were very lucky to win. To think, they've still got a chance of winning this Six Nations! They are not playing well at all."

"There didn't seem to be a Scottish body anywhere near the ball there, to concede that penalty. It just spilled out sideways from French hands..."
The boos ring out from the Scottish fans as replacement scrum-half Jean Marc Doussain boots the ball into the stands to give France a thoroughly undeserved victory.
Scotland's players look bereft as they stand in disbelief, while in the stands fans look stunned - there's a few thousand yard stares among the younger supporters...
France are within 10 metres and Scotland defending for their lives.
It looks like they've won a turnover but Tim Swinson is penalised in front of the sticks. Here comes that sinking feeling...
Scottish legend Gavin Hastings thinks his successors have the belief to win - but do they?
Come to that, how about the Scottish fans?

"There's a lot of belief now in this Scotland team, and that's great to see. They have all performed very admirably."
Matt Green:, external Awful, awful match - such low quality. The Southern Hemisphere must be laughing!
Jonathan Bucks:, external I'm an Englishman living in Paris and supporting the Scots. All you need now is a punchline and you've got yourself a cracking joke...
For a country that produced artists of the calibre of Claude Monet, Alexandre Dumas and Eric Cantona, France are showing remarkably little creativity at the moment.
Scotland win another penalty at the scrum but although Duncan Weir's kick starts on target, the wind gets hold of it and blows it wide of the sticks.

"This is such an absorbing contest. As ever, in sport, when there are just a few points in it you're always wondering how things are going to pan out."
Image source, Getty ImagesScotland win the trench warfare. Scrums are not always the prettiest part of the game - especially on a bog - but when the Scots hold firm for the second time in a row and get a shove on, the hosts are awarded the put-in.
But France turn over the ball and when they finally feed Mathieu Bastareaud - his first pass for at least half an hour - the 18 stone powerhouse takes the visitors into the Scottish 22 for pretty much the first time in the half.
He makes 15m with Scotsman hanging off him like kids off an indulgent dad, but when the French recycle and look to attack down the right the ball is spilled and Scotland escape. Was that the game right there?
France dominate the Scots in the scrum - but no penalty results and we go again.
You feel if France are to win this they need to get something from this possession on the Scottish 10m line, because the visitors have created very little in this second half.
Despite that lack of threat from Les Bleus, La Marseillaise rings round Murrayfield as the French fans try to lift their team. A less tuneful rendition of "Scotland, Scotland" is offered in return.

"Scotland need to keep playing the very same way they have been doing - it has been a very courageous performance."
Rhydian Mann:, external What a scrappy game! That pitch is falling apart!
Christopher Hawkes:, external I wonder who made the decision to plough Murrayfield before this game?
Jonathan Davies
Former Wales fly-half on BBC One
"That should give Scotland a little more confidence now. France have not really offered anything other than the intercept for the try. Scotland need to take hold and close it out."
Duncan Weir decides cometh the hour, cometh the man. After Greig Laidlaw's miss seconds before the fly-half takes charge and bangs his kick just inside the right hand post.
Scotland get a big shove on and France concede a free-kick for the feed not being straight at the scrum. The Scots opt for another scrum - can they do any damage?
Penalty Scotland! Thomas Domingo is pinged for boring in - not pushing straight forwards but instead driving diagonally into the scrum - but Greig Laidlaw's long-range effort falls short.
It was right on the edge of his range, especially as it looks like he's kicking out of a mudflat.
Tom Watson:, external Scotland need to keep their discipline in the scrum otherwise they run the risk of being overrun...
Margaux M. Loyer:, external Huget is really not a great player. But every time he manages to score, annoying everyone.
The French have just lost 20 metres from their own scrum courtesy of a shocking pass from Maxime Machenaud. Scotland rub salt into the wounds as prop Ryan Grant - knocking on for 20 stone of ink, muscle and attitude - rumbles down the touchline before finally being brought to ground.
Olly in St Andrews: Am I the only one who can see that neither of Scotland's tries should have been awarded? Huget had definite downward pressure for the first...
Ed: There is too much playing to the referee rather than getting on with the game. It is is one of the many things about the modern game, including the rule that means a scrum equals a penalty most of the time, that has led to huge loss of enjoyment.
