A messy opening but Michele Campagnaro adds some razzle-dazzle, evading Luther Burrell's tackle. A shuffle of the hips and a quick change of pace and the centre is free to roam through midfield. Italians hearts beating a bit faster, but he attempts to find his winger but all he can do is find touch.

"The building process starts again for England. Italy were running out of steam after about half an hour and England need to start that process again in this second half, but they need Italy to run out of steam with 20 minutes to go and give England 20 minutes in which they can go all out attack."

Billy Twelvetrees nicks the ball from Angelo Esposito but the visitors go backwards and Danny Care kicks skywards, gifting Italy possession, although they do little with it.

Luciano Orquera starts the second half and Mike Brown coolly gathers.

England still need to score another 32 points to get ahead of Ireland's points differential. It means Stuart Lancaster's men must score five converted tries, which isn't impossible against a pooped out Italian defence. England are back on the field, while the Italians are about to emerge from their dressing room. The second half will be up and running shortly.

"Entirely fitting that it is Mike Brown who is bringing England's campaign to a successful crescendo. His country's player of the tournament, he is making full use of Luther Burrell's power and Owen Farrell's increasing assurance with ball in hand. The floodgates have been given a mighty shove - will they now cave in?"

Small Man Peaky:, external As an English fan I am loathed to be optimistic but this is brilliant stuff. New Zealand must be feeling twinges of nerves. Just twinges.

George Davis:, external This is fine rugby from England showing their class and potential, however Italy are going backwards rapidly.

    Sir Clive Woodward
Former England coach in Rome on BBC One

"England have been a bit disappointing with their handling errors, while the scrum hasn't been great. The Italians haven't really taken advantage. England are playing with tremendous pace and the Italy team is absolutely blowing. The ambition is there from England. They're playing with such pace that the Italians are tiring. They should be very positive that they can put on a big score in the second half."

"The way England are going to get the score they need is by playing good structured rugby which allows the bit of flair and individualism to come on top of it. We have seen that - Danny Care's little snipe to put Owen Farrell in and Farrell's dummy to send in Mike Brown - and that is what they need to be doing in the second half."

Ed Longden:, external Centre's line from Farrell. Some beautiful running from England's backs today, especially Burrell.

Chris Shortall:, external Note to England. Just give the ball to Burrell. He's monstering the Italian centre.

"That was a very simple move. Farrell got the second to touch and Brown showed the skills that he has got. Italy's holes are now being exposed."

"Hats off to David Wilson. He was not expecting that ball at the tail of the line-out, he did well to palm it back. Owen Farrell is attacking the line so much better than he has previously, he threw the dummy to allow Mike Brown to charge through. I don't know what Brown has changed in his diet but it has made him a lot quicker."

  14. CONVERTED TRYpublished at 13:10 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March 2014

England secure the line-out, despite Ben Morgan mistiming his leap, and they work it out wide with Owen Farrell releasing Mike Brown, who sprints through a ghost-like Italian defence for his fourth try of the tournament - and his fourth international try. A trouble-free conversion for Farrell.

England are now in the ascendancy and Tom Wood leaps above everyone else to gather the ball at the line-out. England then earn a scrum, then a tiring Italy concede a penalty and Danny Care takes it quickly. Breathless stuff.

"Much better tactics by England, attacking the Italian front row and getting round the fringes. That created space for Care to put Farrell away."

Former England fly-half on BBC Radio 5 live

"Good score from England. Direct and simple rugby, two or three pick-and-goes from the middle of the field. Ben Morgan charging forward and, as is so often the case, the breaks come from the middle rather than out wide. It is amazing how quickly the score builds if you convert everything into seven points. Two or three times over the line and the game looks completely different."
