Quote MessageWe haven't seen a lot of Scott Williams in this half but he is a wonderful rugby player. And that just showcases his ability.

Quote MessageWe haven't seen a lot of Scott Williams in this half but he is a wonderful rugby player. And that just showcases his ability.
A shuffle of the hips, a beguiling change of pace and Scott Williams punches holes in the England midfield... Sam Burgess beaten... Mike Brown brings him down. The best move of the night for the visitors and it came from a successful line-out and a mis-pass from Dan Biggar.

Quote MessageBen Youngs has been a superstar in this first-half. He has been the general going forward in attack and marshalling the defence. Wales cannot find any gaps around the fringes.
Fabulous! Liam Williams chases his own up-and-under and despite the attention of Owen Farrell comes away with the ball. England counter-rucking with aggression, Wales retaining possession...
A first sight of George North on the wing... eight phases, nine phases... a chip ahead and Mike Brown is alert to the danger. He fumbles, but the ball bobbles backwards. Maybe. Possibly. Encouraging signs for Wales.
Wales have had to endure a fair amount of set-piece woe in the first half at Twickenham, losing two scrums and three line-outs.
England, who struggled with their line-out during the World Cup warm-up fixtures, have only lost one of their four so far.

Quote MessageThe scrum is a problem for Wales, but their line-out has probably functioned worse than that. Set-piece wise Wales are falling apart.

The Welsh line-out creaking like an old ship. Scott Baldwin unable to find anyone in a red shirt. If they are to have any hope of winning a match such as this, Sam Warburton and his mates must steady the set-pieces.
Bradley Davies with the finesse of a sledgehammer as he goes snorting down the left wing. It's effective and a rare charge by a man in red. Wales, though, struggling to put together phases. Dan Biggar penalised for fumbling the ball in the next phase. The visitors wishing it was half-time already, but there's seven minutes to go.

Quote MessageWhere is Wales' pattern? Where has Warrenball gone?
Heart-in-the-mouth stuff... Mike Brown gathers Dan Biggar's kick ahead, but Wales players are surging towards him. The full-back evades scrum-half Gareth Davies and his kick ahead bounces kindly into touch. Everything falling England's way at the moment.

Six of England's players are now into double figures for metres made, while only fly-half Dan Biggar has managed the same for Wales.
Mike Brown received all the plaudits for his attacking surges forward in the opening-night victory over Fiji, but Jonny May was the next best for both stats and has his reward against Wales.
Scott Baldwin has had better nights. Wales lose their own line-out and Warren Gatland's men need to stop the rot if this match isn't going to run away from them before half-time.

Quote MessageWhat a brilliant set-piece move from England. Big Sam Burgess coming in and trucking up against Jamie Roberts early on. Watson hesitated a bit and it stopped for a moment but again, yet another superb decision to go down the short side.
England 16-6 Wales
The tide was turning in England's favour. Quick line-out ball, it's spun wide... Ben Youngs with a dash and a pass, releasing the supporting Jonny May who runs through down the wing.
The referee quickly checks whether Mike Brown had knocked-on during that phase, but he full-back hadn't. Twickenham at ease and Owen Farrell adds two points.

Quote MessageThey are like a pack of dogs in white with the contact and speed off the line. Sam Burgess put in a great heavy assist tackle to start that pressure. If there was any doubt about selection at the moment, that tackle by Burgess and Owen Farrell on Jamie Roberts showed they are doing all right.
A rare honeyed platform for the Wales forwards. A dash from Gareth Davies from the base of the ruck... Wales recycling... Jamie Roberts with as much regard to his safety as a crash test dummy, barging into Sam Burgess and Owen Farrell and gang tackled by the pair... the crowd wince..
But the roars around Twickenham is all you need to hear to learn that England have won a penalty - Dan Lydiate holding on on the floor.
Wales, whose injury problems in the front row have been well documented, have now lost both of their scrums.
England, whose possession stats are now up to 63%, have had the better of ball in hand going forward in the opening quarter.
Sam Burgess has already had four carries - more than any other player on the pitch.
