That is another big worry for Wales. That scrum went back at a rate of knots. Psychologically, it is a tough one to work your way back from. Dan Cole seems to be having the better of Gethin Jenkins. The whole front row are struggling.

    England 9-6 Wales

England surging forward at the scrum, the Welsh retreating, and the referee has no option to give a short, sharp shrill in Stuart Lancaster men's favour. The set-pieces a worry for Wales.

It was a Dan Lydiate tackle which sparked the kerfuffle, but the referee Jeromes Garces says the tackle was fine. "You just focus on the game," the referee tells the two captains.

It'll be put-in at the scrum for England and the crowd are roaring. Wales' 20,000 fans sing "Wales! Wales!" A crackling atmosphere.

This will be pre-planned. Anything kicks off, everyone gets in there. That is potentially why Mike Brown has run 30 yards to strike up a few handbags.

Hang on, hang on, we've rolled back to the 1970s... players surrounding each other, there's pushing and shoving, Mike Brown directing verbal arrows towards a Welsh shirt and before he knows it the full-back is surrounded by dragons breathing fire.

For all of England's superior attacking stats, already they've given away four penalties, all for infringements at the breakdown.

A flick back by George North falls into the arms of Billy Vunipola. England with possession again. Ben Youngs turns the Welshmen on their heels, kicking to touch, and the Welsh line-out is struggling. The ball nicked from Alun Wyn Jones. England rumbling.

Sublime kick-and-chase by Dan Bigger, the master of that tactic. The outside-half chips ahead again, but is brought down to the turf by Tom Youngs. England will have line-out on their own 22 - and this time Geoff Parling jumps higher than everyone else to secure sturdy ball.

Big-match temperament from Owen Farrell. England had lost some shape but he steps in behind and calms everything down. That is the proof of just how big this game is.

  10. Drop-goal - Farrellpublished at 17 min

    England 6-6 Wales

Ben Youngs, snapping and sniping around the fringes, spots a gap and is nearly through... England creeping ever closer to Wales' 22 but they're being pushed back. Never mind, there's always the drop-goal. Owen Farrell standing 35m back - and somehow the ball sails over. Just. Audacious.

The pressure doesn't seem to be coming through the way Biggar is kicking. Both have been right down the centre.

    England 3-6 Wales

Dan Biggar, the Rafael Nadal of the rugby world, a fidgety routine - running his hand through his hair, puffing his chest, but it works. Masterful kicking.

  13. England 3-3 Walespublished at 14 min

Dan Biggar with the up-and-under, the ball goes to the moon and back, but Mike Brown peerless under the high ball. Dan Cole, though, is caught with his hand on the ball at the breakdown. You're not supposed to do that, sir. Another chance for Dan Biggar.

The two teams are level after the opening 10 minutes, but England have enjoyed more possession and territory.

They're also ahead 78-6 on metres gained and 19-4 on carries.

Wales on the front-foot now, though, creeping into England's 22 and Dan Biggar opts for the drop-goal, but it wobbles wide.

That is no more than England deserve. The lineout hasn't quite functioned but they have got the better of the Welsh eight at the scrum at the moment.

  17. Penalty - Farrellpublished at 12 min

    England 3-3 Wales

Owen Farrel 5m or so inside the Wales half, but the outside-half kicks with a sniper's calm and it's a wonderful effort.

Brilliantly defended by Wales, Dan Lydiate chopping at the ankles. But both teams are struggling with the line-out. Scott Williams with the wonky throw and it's a nervy start for Warren Gatland's men. Wales subsequently penalised at the scrum, too, which will give Owen Farrell a chance to test his radar.

If England get through the phases by getting those big men in and create quick ball, that is where the overlaps are happening.

That is some good play by England. They were looking to get the ball wide. Whenever Mike Brown gets the ball he looks to make something happen. Wales have been caught a couple of times.
