  1. Scotland 6-10 USApublished at 25 MIN

USA oozing confidence. Seamus Kelly Brian O'Driscoll-like in midfield, changing pace and beating men on a coruscating run into Scottish territory. Scotland alert at the breakdown, though, and danger is averted. For now. End-to-end stuff...

Tremendous play. It was a great line-out. They moved the ball back inside and there were a couple of missed tackles. The USA burrowed over. In a funny way, it was reminiscent of how Japan scored the other day. It was a very well-worked try. Scotland need to get more of the ball.

  3. Scotland 6-10 USApublished at 14:55 British Summer Time 27 September 2015

United States rely upon captain Chris Wyles quite heavily in attack, and already he has made more metres (34) and carries (three) than any other player on the pitch.

Scotland have dominated the possession stats though, having seen 67% of the ball.

    Scotland 6-10 USA

What winning your own line-out can do. USA secure ball near the Scottish 22, the forwards punch holes through the Scottish defence... Phillip Thiel with a bulldozing run. Richie Gray holds him off but it would need 30 men to stop prop Titi Lamositele from wriggling under a mass of bodies.

AJ MacGinty's conversion kisses the uprights but falls the right way. Two points. What a surprise this score is.

  5. Missed penalty - Hoggpublished at 18 min

    Scotland 6-3 USA

A penalty on the halfway line for the Scots and this is Stuart Hogg territory, but the full-back scoops his gargantuan effort wide.

Grant Gilchrist wincing, though, and that's the end of the lock's participation in this match. He hobbles off. A blow for Scotland.

  6. Scotland 6-3 USApublished at 17 min

USA win a line-out! Normally, that wouldn't deserve an exclamation mark but it's their first successful take on their own throw. Scotland, eventually, still manage to nick possession. The Scottish team's star on the rise.

Good play by Scotland. It is the first time that they have strung together the phases. The more open this game is, the more it will favour Scotland.

  8. Penalty - Russellpublished at 15 min

    Scotland 6-3 USA

USA caught in an offside trap. This penalty is in front of the posts, a gimme, so outside-half Finn Russell takes responsibility and adds the three points.

Ryan Grant gleefully collects another dodgy USA line-out throw and charges through white-shirted bodies... Scotland going through the phases... Mark Bennett with a cute swerve, sprinting into USA's 22..

Scotland knocking at the door, threatening to kick it down.

  10. Scotland 3-3 USApublished at 12 min

The United States conceded 15 penalties during their opening defeat by Samoa, five of which were kicked for goal.

The States, whose lead today was wiped out by that Stuart Hogg three-pointer, lost the game by nine points.

Here, they're contesting in the contact area - but struggling on their own line-out. Another wonky throw gifting Scotland put-in in the scrum in their own half.

It was a quick penalty take by Scotland but everything went at half-pace after that. There weren't enough numbers. The US will be pretty pleased with their start. If they can get the throws straight from the line-out they will be more than a handful.

Magnificent from USA's forwards, stealing possession from a Scottish put-in at the scrum. The men in dark blue fall like a pack of cards. Another put-in for the Scots, though, but Vern Cotton's men penalised for early engagement. Not the finest five minutes for Scotland's forwards.

  14. Scotland 3-3 USApublished at 8 min

Stuart Hogg supreme under the high ball and gives his team the platform to run from deep, but Mark Bennett's chip ahead bobbles into touch, dimming the crowd's din and ending a promising Scotland move.

  15. Penalty - Hoggpublished at 6 min

    Scotland 3-3 USA

Applause from scrum-half Henry Pyrgos for his forwards as USA fold in the scrum. A pat on the bum for number eight Josh Strauss, too.

Stuart Hogg to test his radar near the halfway line and the full-back has more than enough juice on that crackerjack of an effort.

  16. Scotland 0-3 USApublished at 4 min

Henry Pyrgos charging down at AJ MacGinty and the American outside-half only just gets his kick away. Scotland offside again, though, as Scotland attempt to set up a drive from the line-out. Back-rower Alasdair Strokosch the guilty party and USA can breathe a little easier.

  17. Penalty - MacGintypublished at 2 MIN

    Scotland 0-3 USA

USA, in a white kit with navy and red trim, confidently bossing the breakdown and prop Ryan Grant is caught offside, which gives AJ MacGinty an early eye at the posts.

He boots it high, but it's accurate and has the distance.

Heartfelt singing of Flower of Scotland... eyes closed, chins out... a wonderful sound which is unfamiliar on such a field. Has the Stars and Stripes ever rung out around Elland Road? It is now. Hands on hearts from the USA team. USA followers outsung by the Scots purely because of numbers, but not lacking in passion.
