I was out in California at a rugby event recently. Once rugby becomes more mainstream in the USA, watch out the rest of the world. I predict in eight years' time the USA will be a force to be reckoned with.

"Have they got the American flag in the gift shop?

"And a Stars and Stripes hat?

    "And an Uncle Sam hat?

    "And starry sunglasses?

    "And an Hawaiian-style Lei?

"Get them all. Ever single one of them. Buy the shop."

The men representing  the Stars and Stripes may be unfamiliar to many, but they're a settled side. The United States make only one personnel change from the side that lost their opening match 25-16 to Samoa as hooker Phil Thiel replaces Zach Fenoglio.

Saracens' Chris Wyles captains the side and switches to full-back after a stint on the wing.

Coach Mike Tolkin said: "Fenoglio's logged a lot of minutes as starter and Thiel is a little fresher."

My hope is that we see some fantastic rugby. Italy played Canada here yesterday and it was a great game of rugby. Vern Cotter has done the right thing in promoting some players. It is good for the well-being of the squad. Now they need to take the game to the USA. My worry is that USA get off to a good start and put Scotland under pressure.

Scotland have won all four of their matches against the USA, all by 20-plus points, so Vern Cotter's men are favourites this afternoon. But that hasn't stopped the American fans from dreaming big.

You want to know about the teams? Ah, right. Here you go... Scotland have had just a four-day turnaround since winning their opening match 45-10 against Japan in Gloucester, and so coach Vern Cotter has made nine changes.

Cotter's plans have been somewhat muddied as back-rower John Hardie, who was originally set to keep his place, was ruled out with a head knock.

Ryan Wilson, who was to have dropped to the bench, now retains his place, with Fraser Brown stepping down to start among the replacements, as he did against Japan. The other seven replacements against Japan all start today.

Winger Tim Visser and flanker Alasdair Strokosch, who were not involved at all on Wednesday, also start.

Scotland burst Japan's balloon on Wednesday with an impressive five-try victory. Can they beat the USA and regain top spot in Pool B, putting themselves in pole position for qualification?

Elland Road resplendent, cloudless blue skies, sunshine - an Indian summer for a fascinating tournament.
