Nervous ripples around the Millennium Stadium whenever Fiji have the ball. The men in white always looking to offload, a missed tackle always costly... Fiji playing on Wales' halfway line.
Two players are needed - Ken Owens and Luke Charteris - to bring down Asaeli Tikoirotuma. Wales just waiting for Fiji to make the errors.

Quote MessageThere's a few players blowing and it's only going to get tougher these last few minutes. Wales are a very fit side but with such a short turnaround since their last game, it's bound to take it out of you."

Tyler Morgan attempts to overtake Vereniki Goneva on his outside, but the Fiji centre forms an impenetrable barrier. Wales recycle, though, spin it wide... but Fiji's defence has turned into a brick wall...
Ten minutes remaining and James Hook appears on the pitch, much to the crowd's delight.

Right decision for me. Forget about the bonus point and put Fiji at arm's length with the penalty kick - there's still 11 minutes left to go for two more tries.

Quote MessageAs far as Wales are concerned, it's now just about getting a result and keeping the momentum going in terms of three wins out of three."
Wales 23-13 Fiji
The Wales front row pop up, and they're turned by Fiji - but the men in white go over the top... fine margins. Touch or kick? Kick.
Dan Biggar on the 22, left of the posts, he shuffles, he twitches, taps his chest, rolls his shoulders... but the fidgeting outside-half boots it over.
Jamie Roberts uses his 6ft 4in frame to charge down Ben Volavola's clearance kick... Wales fans inside the stadium revived. Wales with a put-in 5m from the Fijian tryline and Aaron Jarvis is on for Gethin Jenkins. What will happen to the scrum now?
Luke Charteris firm in the line-out, a firm platform for his men. Sam Warburton appears down the blindside, finds Ken Owens but the hooker puts his foot into touch. Fiji, under pressure for a change, have a line-out in the shadow of their tryline and they come away with the ball.

Quote MessageYou have got to admire the way Fiji have played. They have lost their first two games and are out of the World Cup yet they have given everything here. Worrying, worrying times for Wales."
Wales 20-13 Fiji
Wales largely dominated possession and territory in the first quarter of the game, holding around 75% in each, but Fiji's impressive work after the break is chipping away at that advantage.
Wales' scrum in a terrible state, retreating at worrying speed and Taulupe Faletau finds himself on the floor, engulfed by the opposition. Tin hats on. Somehow Wales' scrambled defence holds firm in their own 22.

I was sitting here very confidently at half-time thinking it was all over, but Wales are under pressure and the scramble defence we've come to know so well is just about holding on.
As yet, with 17 minutes to go, Fiji haven't yet gone to their bench and I'm very surprised about that. Both sides have players with their hands on their knees and blowing hard.
Fiji recycle... Ben Volavola to the offloading rhino Leone Nakarawa but he spills this time while receiving the attention of Dan Biggar. Knee-knocking times for Wales, who are facing wave after wave of white-shirted attacks.
Matthew Morgan into a phalanx of defenders, but he offloads... Dan Biggar with the up-and-under, somehow the ball comes back to black-shirted hands.. but an iffy kick from Wales gifts possession to Fiji and the men in white make the most of their gift, offloading and weaving into enemy territory. Wales fans gulp as Leone Nakarawa goes snorting down the blindside.
Alex Cuthbert side-stepping in midfield, but the winger is caught all alone, none of his mates were alert to the run and Fiji, again, gain ascendancy at the breakdown. Worrying times for Wales fans.

Leone Nakarawa is unable to stay on his feet in the tackle, and Wales again off the hook and with a chance with a nerve-easing touch finder.
Wales 20-13
Wales early dominance was born out in their superiority in the stats. But Fiji are much more of a presence in the game now, particularly in their ability to break the line...
