  1. More round-ball support for Pumaspublished at 16:11 Greenwich Mean Time 25 October 2015

    Argentina 3-7 Australia

West Ham’s Argentine striker Mauro Zarate, fresh from scoring the opener in Saturday’s win 2-1 over Chelsea, hopes to complete a memorable sporting weekend at Twickenham.

He'll be delighted the Pumas are on the board after that shaky start.

"It's a shame Joaquin Tuculet wasn't on Bosch's shoulder because that would have been an easy try. I think Pocock over read it, although it's a brilliant move from Argentina. Unfortunately there is nobody in support."

  4. Penalty - Sanchezpublished at 7 mins

    Argentina 3-7 Australia

Nicolas Sanchez strokes the ball over and the way they carved through the Wallabies to set it up will give them massive encouragement.

  5. Argentina 0-7 Australiapublished at 6 mins

Australia stem the bleeding. Marcelo Bosch is dragged down by a superb cover tackle by Bernard Foley and the green and gold flood back to prevent the quick recycle.

But only at the expense of a penalty...

This is as open as we had hoped.

Both sides have brought their sense of adventure.

Marcelo Bosch comes flying through a huge gap in midfield.

Pulled down just short by Bernard Foley. Breathless stuff.

"They've both come to play, haven't they? That's well read by Simmons, it's a brilliant take. It's dangerous play from Sanchez, but it's a wonderful intercept."

    Disaster for the Pumas!

Just 67 seconds on the clock on the clock when Aussie second row Rob Simmons banks on Nicolas Sanchez's pass and nabs the off-load.

Off he gallops under the sticks for an interception try from 40 metres out and Bernard Foley makes no mistake with the extras.

Will there be more tears shed from Argentina's players when the national anthem is played?

We are very emotional people and we have that in our DNA. That’s not enough if you playing against Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. You also have to play really well. We played really well against New Zealand for 60 minutes but they stepped it up. To make history Argentina have to win the next game."

It is lucky that these Argentine forwards are built like brick outhouses.

There are some big, big emotions rattling around in the Pumas bellies at anthem time and it takes all their restraint to keep the tears at bay.

The Aussies respond with a version of Advance Australia Fair that is high on volume, low on tune.

    We're ready.

"Nicolas Sanchez is the player who's impressed me more than anyone for Argentina. He gets the timing right on when you move it. I think they will target the Australian scrum, but if they have the opportunities, they now have the ability and confidence to go wide."

Horns locked, backs slapped and instructions bellowed in the  Argentina dressing room as the Pumas feel friendly human contact for one final time before heading over the top.

Out come the two teams into watery autumn sunshine, amid stirring strings and crackling pyrotechnics.

Twickenham a picture, the stage is set.

"This one is very special. Everyone expects Australia to play as better than they did against Scotland. David Pocock is back - and Israel Folau, who has had a quiet World Cup; today could be the day for that player, he is world class."

  20. Ledesma's split loyaltiespublished at 15:49

It won't just be the Windsors who have played out some serious split family loyalties at Twickenham during this tournament.

Spare a thought for the Ledesma clan.

Mario was a keystone of the Argentina front row at the 1999, 2003 and 2007 World Cups.

Come 2015 though and he is the coach who has whipped the Wallaby scrum into shape, perhaps fatally undermining his country's hopes of a first World Cup final.

Australia head coach Michael Cheika has given him licence to blast out the Argentine anthem though, perhaps hoping that gets the patriotism out of his system pre kick-off.

"I want him to love that. He’s still very proud and I wouldn’t expect him to be any other way,” said Cheika., external
