"England are starting to look like a good team in attack. The next step will be to be able do this early on if they want to make the step up to a world class team."

So, Italy are crumbling like a stale panettone, but England have been reasonably ruthless in the last few minutes.

The home side's heads have dropped.

Slick as you like from England.

George Ford rifles it into the gut of Jamie George who offloads superbly to the on-rushing Owen Farrell to go over completely untouched.

And then he knocks over the extras.

Jonathan Joseph's hat-trick and the best of the three. Joe Launchbury does so well to pull in defenders and create space for it to be worked out to the centre.

He has plenty to do though and drives the legs to the line from five metres, taking one, two and finally three Italians with him as he touches down.

Owen Farrell's conversion is from the left touchline and it hits the far post and comes back.

  5. Replacementpublished at 70 mins

Another debut. This rime it's Paul Hill making his England bow. Off goes Dan Cole. Mike Brown is replaced by Alex Goode and Dylan Hartley by Jamie George.

  6. Italy 9-28 Englandpublished at 70 mins

A good period for Italy, showing they can get hands on the ball. Mattia Bellini has looked sharp on the Italian wing and he's crashing into the tackles.

Plenty of phases but no territory for the hosts and they concede the penalty.

Italy go to touch and England are penalised from the line-out. Another offside.

This time the line-out is snaffled by Billy Vunipola. And England can breathe again.

England international Ben Foden is impressed with Danny Care's technique.

  10. Italy 9-28 Englandpublished at 66 mins

Clever work from Luke McLean who sticks one foot out of touch while collecting the ball on the full. It gives Italy an advanced line-out.

And they work it well as Michele Campagnaro is wriggling away down the right. He's stopped just shy of the line but Maro Itoje strays offside.

  13. Italy 9-25 Englandpublished at 62 mins

Well, that looks a shade better from England's point of view. And they're playing with much more verve and confidence now.

This time it's a try completely of England's making.

The visitors set the drive nicely from an attacking line-out, with Dylan Hartley in possession at the back.

Danny Care takes it and comes alive, stroking a kick through the heart of the Italian defence, like Thierry Henry stroking into the net.

It's perfect for Jonathan Joseph to touch down under the posts. His second of the match, and seventh in his England career.

  17. Replacementpublished at 57 mins

    Italy 9-18 England

An England debut for Maro Itoje as he comes on for James Haskell.

He's straight into a scrum which results in an England penalty.

    Italy 9-18 England

    Paul Grayson

“What a shame from Italy. They were doing everything right, they had England pushed back but it was a blind pass lobbed in the air that has let England off the hook.”

  19. try

    Absolute gimme for England.

Italy look pretty happy in their own 22, but Leonardo Sarto fluffs his pass to Luke McLean and Jonathan Joseph is on it in a flash and strolls over the line.

That makes it easy peasy for Owen Farrell to convert.

  20. Italy 9-11 Englandpublished at 52 mins

It's another Italian penalty, although it's a messy one and it's been given by the TMO for a binding issue. Bit unfortunate there, England.

    But Italy go to touch.
