Now to try and nail down that Grand Slam against an Ireland team that will be bang up for derailing the party train in Dublin.

That is the headliner next Saturday at 17:00 GMT.

Scotland head coach Vern Cotter, speaking to ITV: "We're disappointed with the result and obviously we would have liked to put on a better performance - then when we got injuries early we came unstuck.

"We couldn't get a grip on the game and went backwards. We've had eight concussions in two away games and now I'm more focused on getting the team back together for next week.

"We didn't defend well off the set piece, they scored from those, and then you find yourself chasing the game. You start making changes because of injuries and your strategic options are limited. 

"We're frustrated but I'm more looking at the problem of next week's game. We will take it on the chin and work hard to put something together that we can be proud of next week."

England coach Eddie Jones on ITV: "We started well and our intensity was pretty good. It was the sort of performance we needed.

"Scotland were confident, they came down here with high expectations and we needed to play well. We have been ready to play well for a couple of weeks. 

"I was really pleased with our effort and now the focus is on the Grand Slam next weekend. 

"I have to give credit to the players, they have worked hard and learned new things. They have been open minded.

"The exciting thing is that we are only just starting. We are one year into a four-year project and we will only get better."

Unsurprisingly Jonathan Joseph has to make room on his mantelpiece for another glittering trophy - the man of the match award.

The England centre made more metres (126), beat more defenders (five), more clean breaks (four) and more offloads (two) than anyone else on the pitch. And he only played 57 minutes!

Oh, and he also scored a hat-trick of tries...

It was an uncomfortable post-match interview for John Barclay, but it was not much of an easier afternoon for his predecessor as Scotland captain Greig Laidlaw.

He was stuck in a television studio between Sir Clive Woodward and Jonny Wilkinson being asked to assess where his team-mates went wrong.

Scotland captain John Barclay : "I don't know what to say to be honest, we just didn't show up. We got off to a bad start and continued, our dicipline was very poor and we gave away soft tries.

"You don't win however many games in a row without being a good side so good luck to England.

"We will review it, which won't be easy to watch.

"We are trying to move away from the tag of plucky losers but that wasn't even that. We were useless."

England centre Jonathan Joseph, speaking to ITV: "Coming back into the team, scoring a hat-trick and winning the Six Nations means it has been a great day.

"The boys performed extremely well, we had a great week and a great fortnight preparing.The boys were very confident and put in a great performance today."

On the fast start: "It was more what we built in the last week, we focused on starting each session very well and you could see we did that today. The set piece was unbeliveable and what we did on back of that was very good."

On his tries: "Credit to the boys, I just ran the lines outside what they created and the holes were there for me. They set the platforms."

On facing Ireland to win the Grand Slam: "It is going to be a great challenge for us. We are very excited and can't wait to try and do it."

If England are going to play like that next week, I don't know how Ireland are going to win that game.

England are embracing every hurdle that's in front of them.

Eddie Jones has created so much pressure on this side and this has been their response.

Back-to-back Grand Slams - the target for England in Dublin next weekend - has only been achieved five times before. 

Wales achieved the first one in 1908 and 1909, England have done it three times in 1913 and 1914, 1923 and 1924 and 1991 and 1992 while France did it in 1997 and 1998.

England will go to Dublin next weekend with both consecutive Grand Slams and a world record of 19 Test wins in their sights.

It was a chastening afternoon for Scotland despite them scoring three converted tries, their hopes of a first Triple Crown since 1990 wrecked by a dismal first-half performance.

My goodness me England were imperious. they will be very pleased with that, but it was an armchair ride they had for most of the afternoon. Scotland and their supporters will be bitterly disappointed, they just did not turn up.
