    They are a'knocking...

The referee talks to the two team captainsImage source, Rex Features

Ross Quinn:  Can we sub Nigel Owens on? How does he not see Italian encroachment at that line out.

Jon Evans:  If only every rugby official was Nigel Owens. Such a great example.

James Grant:  Good to see Nigel Owens Refereeing this game ;)

    Scotland 3-0 Italy

    More jiggery-pokery at the line-out.

Scotland hooker Ross Ford delays his throw because a bit of argy-bargy in the middle of the queue.

Sergio Parisse looks like he has the sharpest elbows.

The referee reckons Ford has delayed too long though and it is a free-kick Italy.

A quickly-taken up and under and Braam Steyn hands Scotland a penalty back with a brain-dead shove on Ali Price.

    Messy.

  4. 'Scotland need to settle'published at 12:55 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2017

    Scotland 3-0 Italy

    Andy Nicol
Former Scotland international on BBC One

Scotland have not been in this game in an attacking sense for the last seven or eight minutes.

They need to get a good kick down field from Finn Russell and just settle themselves.

  5. Hogg carrying Scotland forwardpublished at 12:52 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2017

    Scotland 3-0 Italy

Scotland full-back Stuart Hogg, unsurprisingly, doing all the early running at Murrayfield.

He made 38 metres in the opening 15 minutes with five carries - more than double that of any of his team-mates.

  6. Missed penaltypublished at 20 mins

    Scotland 3-0 Italy

Eduardo Gori chips, darts and regathers to set the alarm bells ringing in the Scotland defence.

The hosts infringe as they rush back and Carlo Canna is going to take a pot-shot at goal from a presentable spot.

Oh, that is a runt of a kick. The ball squirms well wide of the target to relieved cheers from the home crowd.

Excellent spade work from Zander Fagerson. There has been a lot of hype about the 21-year-old Glasgow prop and he shows some street smarts as he clamps down over a tackled man to nick a turnover in the shadow of his own posts.

  8. 'Italy sap the life out of the game'published at 12:49 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2017

    Scotland 3-0 Italy

    Peter Wright
Former Scotland prop on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

This is exactly the concern for Scotland. That Italy sap the life out of the game and make it a set-piece battle.

Scotland aren't able to deal with them legally at the moment.

Scotland are trying to throw to the back of the line-out and Italy are competing there, that's the hardest place to win the ball.

In the scrum, Scotland won the penalty from the first one where they nudged a little bit forward, but Italy are now not allowing them to do that.

  10. Postpublished at 17 mins

    Scotland 3-0 Italy

Scotland prop Zander Fagerson gets skew-whiff at scrum time to hand Italy a penalty inside their own half.

And another bit of Scottish indiscipline as number eight Ryan Wilson throws himself in front of the wheels of an Italian rolling maul.

    That's illegal. Another penalty.

And Carlo Canna kicks into the corner to set up Italy's best bit of field position yet.

    Line-out five out.

  11. Postpublished at 15 mins

    Scotland 3-0 Italy

It is the proverbial bar of soap out there.

Both hookers are struggling to hit their men and then Giovanbattista Venditti spills forward under a swirling high ball.

Not the final-round fiesta of running rugby that you might have expected when the fixture list was unveiled.

John McEnerny:  Stern Vern brought the intensity Scotland had been missing. Give him the send off he deserves, run rampant! Scotland by 25+!

Dave Sommerville:  It would be good to see Scotland cut loose today - at least they don't have to worry about it being a wooden spoon decider.

  13. Postpublished at 9 mins

    Scotland 3-0 Italy

Italy hooker Ornel Gega is having an absolute mare at the line-out. He is penalised for one wonky throw and then misses his man by a metric metre with his next dart.

Marco Fuser blunders in with a high tackle on Hamish Wilson - admittedly not the tallest of players - and Scotland have a penalty to nudge upfield.

  15. 'Italy carry very strongly'published at 12:40 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2017

    Scotland 3-0 Italy

    Andy Robinson
    Former Scotland head coach

Italy played this way last week against France.

They get good field position early on and they carry very strongly.

They play around their forwards, get the maul going and then get the kicking game going.

  16. Postpublished at 7 mins

    Scotland 3-0 Italy

Tim Visser snaffles a high ball ahead of Italy talisman Sergio Parisse. A great take from the Scotland winger.

Parisse was reportedly wearing a Stade Francais armband during his warm-up. His Parisian club is set to merge with city rivals Racing 92.

It has been causing more stink than Pepe Le Pew in the French capital.

Ross Quinn:  Are we totally sure that VC has to go. Just send Montpellier Gregor Townsend instead... they'll not know.. honest....

    Startey: Wow Murryfield sounds amazing!!

Andy Hoops: Italy deserves a try for their national anthem alone.

  18. 'Scotland have ruthless streak'published at 12:37 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2017

    Scotland 3-0 Italy

    Jason White
Former Scotland international on BBC One

Vern Cotter has created a culture about performance and they have a ruthless streak. They have learned since they took home the wooden spoon.

He is leaving the team in a really good place.

  19. 'Errors bring excitement'published at 12:37 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2017

    Scotland 3-0 Italy

    Peter Wright
Former Scotland prop on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

The good thing with this weather is it forces errors into players' games. And with errors, you get excitement.

There will be a lot of kicking in this first half but the team that tries to play sometimes gets the reward for that.

  20. 'All about Scotland's start'published at 12:37 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2017

    Scotland 3-0 Italy

    Andy Nicol
Former Scotland international on BBC One

The pitch will be good, but for me it is all about how Scotland start. It is about redemption from last week, where they were so poor.

That first scrum is a positive. That is a great kick by Stuart Hogg. The start Scotland wanted.
