    Scotland 15-0 Italy

    Andy Nicol
Former Scotland international on BBC One

That almost sums up Italy so far, it was all forward power and then when it had to go wide they didn't have the drive, accuracy or the power.

Fair play to Stuart Hogg for holding him up, but that had to be a try all day long.

Two poor passes took the pace out of it. It was good defence from Scotland to stop it.

  2. Italy held up over the linepublished at 48 mins

    Scotland 15-0 Italy

    George Biagi just short.

    Italy fling the ball wide...

    There is oceans of space...

But the Italian passing is slack, wing Angelo Esposito lacks the killer instinct and Stuart Hogg manages to get across to get his body underneath and hold up over his own line.

    Fisticuffs.

Scotland second row Grant Gilchrist has dragged down another Italy maul prompting some shoving and pushing.

Just an Italy penalty as tempers cool.

Scotland must be close to giving away a penalty try now...

  4. 'Canna has no confidence'published at 13:40 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2017

    Scotland 15-0 Italy

    Andy Nicol
Former Scotland international on BBC One

Scotland kicked very well in the first half, but there have been a couple of poor ones to start the second half.

For Italy, Carlo Canna has got no confidence whatsoever.

    Scotland 15-0 Italy

Scotland give away a penalty as the Italy rolling maul starts to motor.

Will Carlo Canna take on the kick at goal.

Whether it is his shaky confidence or a belief in his forwards' muscle, he opts for the corner instead.

  6. 'A slow start to the half'published at 13:38 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2017

    Scotland 15-0 Italy

    Andy Robinson
Former Scotland head coach on BBC One

Like the first half, it's a slow start.

A couple of errors, both sides trying to kick the ball and trying to get territory.

  7. Postpublished at 44 mins

    Scotland 15-0 Italy

The ball escapes Stuart Hogg's clutches as the Scotland full-back takes to the skies.

Scotland regather, but are pressed back on their own line.

Hogg's clearance kick, under some pressure, squirts out of play, but fails to get the hosts out of their own 22m.

Nick Hughes: Italy's kicking is pathetic. Utter joke. That was near straight & no wind. They give away at least 15 points a game.

Liz:  Awful kicking from Italy today. Pressure appears to be getting to them.

And we are back under way in Edinburgh.

Italy have made a change at hooker with Leonardo Ghiraldini on for Ornel Gega who had a torrid first 40.

Edoardo Padovani spills a simple bouncing ball to hand over possession to the Scots on halfway.

Not a good half for Italy's Carlo Canna, who failed to convert any of Italy's three penalty attempts in the first half.

    Chris Jones

There is a lot going on in this picture.

A full set of lucha libre wrestlers, one of which has fashioned their mask by unstitching a matchball.

And there is an interloper direct from the Austrian Alps, who looks like Joe Launchbury's younger brother post-Movember.

In the middle of it all is BBC Radio 5 live's Chris Jones who seems to have perched a pint of the black stuff precariously close to his technical kit.

Radio commentary from Dublin is coming up on BBC Radio 5 live shortly, spillages withstanding.

  14. Missed tackles cost Italypublished at 13:26 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2017

    Scotland 15-0 Italy

With Scotland on top in the possession stakes and on the scoreboard, it's Italy who have had to make the more tackles in that first-half - 59 to Scotland's 45.

Forwards Andrea Lovotti and Maxime Mbanda and half-back pairing Edoardo Gori and Carlo Canna lead the way with seven.

But, crucially, the visitors have missed 10 tackles to the hosts' three.

  15. 'Rain lifting helped Scotland'published at 13:25 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2017

    Scotland 15-0 Italy

    Chris Paterson
Former Scotland international on BBC One

The better play almost coincided with the rain lifting. Scotland getting that extra pass - that definitely helped.

The opening 10/15 minutes was slow, the scrum took a while, the line-out took a while and the kicking was sloppy.

  16. 'Vern Cotter will be happy'published at 13:24 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2017

    Scotland 15-0 Italy

    Andy Nicol
Former Scotland international on BBC One

It's been a fairly good half for Scotland, they have got two tries and played pretty well.

They've got the players to just spark it and they need to do more of that.

I think Vern Cotter will be happy with that.

Close to be fair, but no cigar.

  19. Postpublished at 40 mins

    Scotland 15-0 Italy

    Italy earn a penalty.

With the clock in the red, they can't kick to the corner. They have to tap and go, or take a chance on Carlo Canna's jippy kicking.

    They opt for the latter.

It is out wide. The odds are slim...

  20. Postpublished at 40 mins

    Scotland 15-0 Italy

Italy are probing with the clock in the red.

Scotland's defence has them covered at every turn though.

Zander Fagerson impresses with some rush defence.

    Still Italy play on...
