A scything break from Edoardo Padovani down the blind side as he runs back George North's kick and skirts round a mis-matched Nicky Smith.

He ships the ball inside to Sergio Parisse who bulldozes on another few metres, before being grappled to the ground by Alun Wyn Jones.

Wind in Italy's sails. But then the ball spills forwards to deflate it...

Some aerial ping-pong from between the two 22m lines.

This suits Italy and the big boot of Luke McLean just fine.

George North finally brings the  game to an end, calling a mark.

Liam Williams spills a swirling, whirling steepler of a drop-out to cheers from the Italy crowd.

Nope, Andrea Lovotti got his spade-like paws on the ball before Jonathan Davies.

The ball was kicked over the try line by a red foot, so it is a drop-out 22 and Italy have escaped some tectonic-level pressure with their defence unbroken.

Jonathan Davies goes over, but he does not look too sure at all that he got his hands to the bobbling ball over the line before Italy prop Andrea Lovotti.

Wales seem to be going for these bonus points here. I would have taken the penalty to get ahead on the scoreboard personally, but they are going for the tries.

    Another piece of Italian skulduggery.

Andrea Lovotti drags down the rolling maul.

JP Doyle awards a third penalty in a row against Italy in the shadow of their own posts.

Italy must be close to giving away a penalty try,

George Biagi takes out Alun Wyn Jones in the air and JP Doyle awards another penalty against them.

Dan Biggar pings the ball into the corner once more.

I would have taken the points. Early on you have to take every opportunity that comes your way, just nudge your way up the scoreboard.

But Wales have come in wanting to score tries and that was a big opportunity.

A penalty for not rolling away against Italy.

Dan Biggar picks the corner rather than the sticks.

Dan Biggar gets his radar working.

With advantage already awarded his way, he punts across field on a shot to nothing.

It lands perfectly in Liam Williams' mitts but Carlo Canna is across to make a good cover tackle.

Justin Tipuric and Sam Warburton are working very closely together. We saw it from the kick-off.

In terms of ball carrying off Rhys Webb, they are the first two to offer themselves. Both very, very prominent early on.

These poor conditions might make it easy to pick up penalties under the new laws.

In this rain, you are told to attack the ball to try and dislodge it out of others hands, but if the ball slips into the face of the opposition player and you go for it, you could be looking at a yellow card.

The game is still struggling to find of rhythm.

Ken Owens picks out his jumper off the line-out and Wales looks to build a platform with some slow and steady one-out rugby.

No pace on the ball, but minimal risk.

Dan Biggar pokes a little grubber through for Liam Williams to chase but Italy have snaffled that before the Wales wing.

It will be interesting to see how much of an impact former Saracens super-brain Brendan Venter has on Italy since working with them.

Italian club rugby isn't great at the moment, but it is about the collective - a new coach, new ideas and then you bring in Sergio Parisse, who is one of the greatest number eights in world rugby.

Both packs are struggling to get a grip on the greasy surface. It is a day for spikes rather than studs.

Andrea Lovotti gives away a penalty at the scrum as he corkscrews south into the turf.

Wales clear their lines from the resulting penalty.

And it is first blood to Italy at scrum time.

The blue front row gets a nudge on their opposite numbers and Wales pop up early.

Penalty Italy and it is booted deep into Wales territory.
