Irish stand firm to go in at the break with a healthy lead.

It's been thoroughly entertaining so far. The second half is set up nicely.

  2. Postpublished at 40 mins

The lineout comes to nothing as Mike Brown fails to collect a pass at speed as they move the ball from left to right.

    But they have another penalty.

Quins have their first try. A brilliant line from Joe Marchant who collects a short pass from Jamie Roberts 20 metres out and darts over unopposed.

Marcus Smith slots his second kick of the afternoon, opting to drop-kick over the conversion.

Fair play to London Irish. They have scored two tries, one from a cross-kick from inside their own 22 and the other from an offload from Blair Cowan.

They are making an excellent first fist of their return to the Premiership.

Harlequins need to summon their international experience to work their way back into this game.

  7. try

Some disjointed midfield play sees both side pumping the ball away from danger but ends with a second London Irish try.

That's magnificent hands from Blair Cowan. He is on the ground but somehow flips the ball up Tommy Bell who evades a couple of challenges and crosses over in the corner.

Bell fails to convert his own try but it's been super stuff from the Exiles so far.

  8. Postpublished at 28 mins

    London Irish 13-3 Harlequins

Topsy Ojo has another sight of the Quins line but knocks on.

The London Irish winger has pace in abundance as we know and is showing it at Twickenham. He could easily have had a second try there.

Former England fly-half on BBC Radio 5 live

That's a magnificent try, counter attacking at its best.

Jamie Roberts tried to crash the ball up and got nailed. The turnover was on but you have to execute.

It was a brilliant, breathtaking try which should be on a highlights reel.

  10. try

Try (Topsy Ojo, con Tommy Bell)published at 24 mins

    London Irish 13-3 Harlequins

A stunning try by Topsy Ojo, who collects a really cute kick from James Marshall and steams almost the length of the pitch, exchanges passes with Fergus Mulchrone and goes over in the corner.

It's a wonderful try that is awarded by the TMO after being checked for offside and a knock on.

    Tommy Bell adds the extras.

    Nearly. So nearly for Harlequins.

Flying winger Charlie Walker juggles with ball after some great work by Danny Care and Marcus Smith (pictured) gives him a sight of the line.

But some fine last-ditch defence denies him and Irish survive.

That's stunning footwork by London Irish wing Alex Lewington out wide.

Real dancing feet sees him elude Quins' England full-back Mike Brown but he is knocked off balance and cannot find a colleague.

Maybe we used up all the tries in the earlier games. Greedy.

  13. Missed penaltypublished at 19 mins

London Irish have the chance to regain their six-point lead with a third Tommy Bell penalty.

But he is off target with one he ought to have slotted.

  14. Penalty (Marcus Smith)published at 16 mins

    London Irish 6-3 Harlequins

London Irish fail to deal with a driving mau and are penalised for coming around the side.

Marcus Smith kicks the penalty from on the 22. A great start for the 18-year-old. What nerves?

  15. Full-timepublished at 17:03 British Summer Time 2 September 2017

    Wasps 50-35 Sale

    Wasps celebrateImage source, Rex Features

Nathan Hughes boots the ball into touch as the clock goes red and Wasps are up and running with a seven try to five victory over Sale.

A thrilling start to the season at the Ricoh.

"Dai Young will be pleased with the bonus point and the tries. To start of your campaign with a win after the disappointment of last season is good," said BBC Coventry & Warwickshire's summariser Richard Moon.

  16. Postpublished at 13 mins

    London Irish 6-0 Harlequins

London Irish repel the first threat.

Scrum-half Scott Steele whacks the ball clear. Quins come again. Danny Care has a sniff of a break but it comes to nothing.

  17. try

Try (Josh Strauss, con MacGinty)published at 16:59 British Summer Time 2 September 2017

    Wasps 50-35 Sale

This will be no more than a consolation for Sale but they may have scored the final try of the afternoon.

New arrival Josh Strauss goes over for their fifth score and AJ MacGinty converts.

What will they be thinking, though, scoring five tries away from home and still ending up on the losing side?

  18. Postpublished at 10 mins

    London Irish 6-0 Harlequins

Quins haven't got going but have a good platform with a scrum just inside the Irish half.

The burly figure of Jamie Roberts crashes through a couple of challenges in typical fashion and there is some good pressure from Quins now.

  19. Penalty (Tommy Bell)published at 8 mins

    London Irish 6-0 Harlequins

Tommy Bell slots his second kick. It's quite straightforward, just off centre. The early pressure on the Quins defence is telling.

  20. try

Try (Alex Rieder, con Gopperth)published at 16:55 British Summer Time 2 September 2017

    Wasps 50-28 Sale

And that really will be that. It has been nip and tuck for a while but flanker Alex Rieder scores Wasps' seventh try after a break by Gaby Lovobalavu.

Jimmy Gopperth's conversion brings up the home side's half-century of points.
