    London Irish 3-0 Harlequins

No doubt London Irish will be happy with that start. They have settled well and are dominating territory.

Can they put 18-year-old Quins fly-half Marcus Smith under pressure? That must be in the gameplan.

  2. Penalty (Tommy Bell)published at 4 mins

    London Irish 3-0 Harlequins

    First points for the Exiles.

Not the easiest kick, but Tommy Bell just about slots over from the left.

The home fans are breathing a little easier at the Ricoh Arena.

England forward Nathan Hughes to the fore as he charges forward and Will Rowlands is there in support to score near the posts. Jimmy Gopperth converts.

"Surely that clinches the game for Wasps," said BBC Coventry & Warwickshire's Geoff Foster.

We are less than five minutes from kick-off in the second game from Twickenham this afternoon.

Wasps have been ringing the changes, with England lock Joe Launchbury among those to be replaced a few minutes ago.

He's now joined on the sidelines by Christian Wade, allowing Marcus Watson to make his debut.

Can the fresh legs see Wasps over the finishing line?

  11. Postpublished at 16:40 British Summer Time 2 September 2017

    Wasps 36-28 Sale

This has been an impressive second-half comeback from Sale, who looked out of it when Dan Robson went over for his fourth try.

How much to have have left in the tank for a final push?

  12. try

Try (Faf De Klerk, con MacGinty)published at 16:34 British Summer Time 2 September 2017

    Wasps 36-28 Sale

Hello! There's a quarter of this match to go and suddenly this is an eight-point game.

Sale have their four-try bonus point too as Faf De Klerk marks his Premiership debut with a try.

Once again AJ MacGinty makes no mistake from the tee.

Sale aren't out of this one yet. Replacement TJ Ioane makes a real impact with a bullocking run.

Wasps are penalised for offside and the Sharks take it quickly to put Denny Solomona, who make his England debut on the summer tour of Argentina, in.

AJ MacGinty adds the conversion. There's 15 points in this.

And Dan Robson won't have the chance to equal that record as he and Danny Cipriani head off the field, to be replaced by Joe Simpson and Juan De Jongh, who is on for his Premiership debut.

  15. Postpublished at 16:27 British Summer Time 2 September 2017

    Wasps 36-14 Sale

Dan Robson might have four tries for Wasps this afternoon, but he still has some way to go in the individual try-fest stakes.

BBC Coventry & Warwickshire's Geoff Foster points out that Christian Wade scored six tries as Wasps won 54-35 at Worcester in April 2016.

That equalled the Premiership record for most tries in a game, a record Wade shares with Saracens' Ryan Constable, who scored six against Bedford in 2000.

London Irish are back in the big time after a year away from the top table.

Their charge to Championship promotion last season was built around focus and determination from every single member of the squad to buy into director of rugby Nick Kennedy's masterplan.

Now that the Exiles are back in the Premiership, there's a realisation that they will have to up the intensity and ruthlessness of their game, but also a belief they can cause several teams a problem this season.

A first London Double Header win at Twickenham today in seven years would be a decent way to start going about that.

  17. try

Try (Dan Robson)published at 16:16 British Summer Time 2 September 2017

    Wasps 36-14 Sale

What an afternoon for Dan Robson! Like with the game's first try, Christian Wade makes a break and who is it but Robson on his shoulder to take the pass and cross for his fourth try of the game.

He's earned a bonus point by himself.

For the first time this afternoon, Jimmy Gopperth's conversion attempt is wayward.

  18. 'If you're good enough, you're old enough'published at 16:12 British Summer Time 2 September 2017

Former Harlequins number eight told BBC Radio 5 live: "Marcus Smith is a supremely talented guy, he's got a wise head on his shoulders and fully deserves his chance today.

"If you're good enough, you're old enough."

  19. Kick-offpublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 2 September 2017

    Wasps 31-14 Sale

We're back under way at the Ricoh Arena, with Danny Cipriani kicking us off.

Are we in for a dull second half? With the way today's games have gone so far I would suggest not.
