    Wales 13-22 Australia

Rob Evans pops up on the wing and deftly hands the ball on to Taulupe Faletau outside him.

Wales are trying here, they're loading the blind side but it's just not coming off.

Liam Williams tip-toes down the wing before knocking on.

You can see the intent from Wales. Everyone expected them to kick it out for that penalty but they went for the cross-field kick. They're trying to play up-tempo and do things differently. They're trying to create opportunities,

    Wales 13-22 Australia

Wales win a penalty and rather than thumping it down field, Dan Biggar hoofs a cross-field kick to wing Steff Evans.

Neatly collected, but Wales are still stuck in their own half, until Taulupe Faletau finds Liam Williams on his outside in the overlap.

Kurtley Beale clears to touch before a theatrical thud to the ground after a tackle from Liam Williams.

    Less of that please Kurtley.

The hosts with a healthy lead and it could have been more.

A very impressive first half, even if South Africa have been scrappy.

Penalty South Africa as Ireland are pinged for Johnny Sexton taking out a man beyond the ball.

    Is that it?

    Nope, not yet.

Elton Jantjies kicks to touch but Peter O'Mahony steals the lineout.

    Wales 13-22 Australia

Not so sweet if you're Welsh.

Warren Gatland has to get his players managing their exit strategy if they're to stay in this game and avoid a 13th-straight defeat by Australia.

Patient build-up at the moment from the Wallabies, they lose it in the breakdown but somehow it arrives back on their side.

Slow though, and Rob Simmonds eventually collects a forward pass.

    Claimed!

Ireland with a prime position, deep in the South Africa 22m, with the clock in the red.

  9. Kick-offpublished at 18:16 Greenwich Mean Time 11 November 2017

    Wales 13-22 Australia

Wales have not won their opening autumn international since they beat Romania in 2002.

History says their clashes against Australia usually go to the wire, so there's still time for the men in red.

But a grand total of 37 caps among their replacements, I imagine they'll be hoping to be back in the game before fresh legs are needed.

Bernard Foley gets us back under way.

The southern hemisphere teams are so strong are the front five.

They're getting a lot of possession and then the half-backs strike while the iron's hot.

    The next score is huge.

    Ireland 14-0 South Africa

    Tony Ward

The Irish defending was magnificent then under sustained Springbok pressure. For all their possession after the penalty, South Africa made no territory against the Irish defence. They should have kicked for three.

    Massive from CJ Stander!

The Ireland number eight - playing against the country he represented at age-grade level - limpets onto Siya Kolisi to secure the turnover in the shadow of his own posts.

Head slaps and back pats all round for the big man.

    Ireland 14-0 South Africa

Ireland fly-half Johnny Sexton can't resist the cheap-shot late-hit on opposite number Elton Jantjies.

He pays the price though as the referee spots the infringement and the penalty is punted into the corner by Jantjies.

Ireland under pressure. The next score could be a big one as well...

That was great rugby from Australia.

Had Wales held out there, they would have gone into half time the more delighted of the two teams.

Wales have played well, they’ve defended brilliantly but it just shows the quality of the opposition. Australia are far more imaginative and they’ve got ability from nine right the way to 15.

Peter O'Mahony is being patched up. The Ireland flanker's head is smeared in blood, but he and the physio can't find the source of the claret.

They decide a quick dab of the magic sponge is best treatment and we are back underway.

It was a great finish after some great build-up work from the Australian forwards.

We call this the killzone - when you concede points after the 40th minute, it's a tough one going into the sheds.

Well, we can stop wondering. Warren Gatland's new-look Wales are taking risks but not reaping the rewards.

Handing over possession from restarts can't have been part of the plan and Hooper's try on the stroke of half-time puts a different complexion on things.

The crowd, animated a minute earlier, are subdued as they ponder the second half.

Brilliant opportunism by Conway. He's so good at that for Munster. Conor Murray's kick is not his best but its position is within five metres of the touchline and that makes it so difficult for the defence . It's a long way back for South Africa now.

    Wales 13-22 Australia

An entertaining first 40, but Wales will be kicking themselves.

They've shown glimpes of the attacking rugby we were all promised, but basic errors in their own 22 have cost them dearly.

Warren Gatland's side are facing a 13th consecutive defeat by the Wallabies at the moment.
