That was a superb chase and Gelant did very well with the touchdown. For the sake of the contest, it was very important South Africa got an opportunity like that just before halftime.

  2. try

Converted try - Wales 21-10 South Africapublished at 37 mins

    Warrick Gelant (con Pollard)

After cowering on the ropes for much of the half, South Africa land a much needed blow.

Dillyn Leyds breaks a couple of tackles, slings the ball wide to Jesse Kriel and the centre, just as he is about to be ushered into touch, boots ahead.

From there on it is all about the turbo-boosters on Warrick Gelant who roars past Aled Davies to get the dot-down.

    Two more from Handre Pollard.

It's a great off-load by Taulupe Faletau - South Africa are really under the cosh now.

Try - Wales 21-3 South Africapublished at 15:07 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2017

    Hadleigh Parkes (con Halfpenny)

    South African kamikaze rugby.

Andries Coetzee takes an age to get his clearing kick away and Dan Biggar gets big on him fast.

Chargedown on the halfway, loose ball and a try up for grabs.

It breaks for Taulupe Faletau who ploughs towards the line with a South African hanging off his coattails.

The number eight looks up and slings the offload inside to a waiting Hadleigh Parkes who can wander under the sticks unchallenged.

  5. Penalty - Wales 14-3 South Africapublished at 31 mins

    Handre Pollard

South Africa decide it is time to give the scoreboard operator some work to do.

Malcolm Marx is showing up well in another underwhelming South African performance.

The hooker is harder to shift than week-old pavement gum once he gets over the top of a breakdown.

Rob Evans is his latest victim and as latches on like a vampire and sucks the possession right out of him.

Nick Hughes: Dear me, the Springboks are already on the plane. Terrible communication all over the field. Criminal interception on the Wales line, just standing still and not moving onto the ball

It's a comfortable day for Wales so far. South Africa will really have to pick their game up if they're looking to change the scoreboard.

    Wales 14-0 South Africa

The momentum leaks away like helium from a popped party balloon.

Rob Evans, 10 metres short of the South African sticks, juggles an offload and eventually knocks on.

A chance for South Africa to clear their lines and get out from under the cosh.

    Wales now asking the questions.

Alun Wyn Jones dips a shoulder and barges into the South Africa 22m....

Whoops, hollers and backslaps among the big Boks.

They are built like a pack of bison and they have sent Wales into reverse at scrum time to earn the penalty.

But all that good work goes to waste.

A complete communications breakdown at the line-out hands the ball back to Wales.

    Interception!

Scott Williams snaffles a South African pass and offloads to Steff Evans.

Has the little man got the gas?

Nope. Dillyn Leyds wins the chase back to the Wales wing's grubber ahead.

That is why I'm in favour of the officials on the field making a call and then if the evidence is insufficient after review, I would give Marx the benefit of the doubt.

    Wales 14-0 South Africa

South Africa, already back on their own 10m line ready for the restart, are called back forward for a scrum five.

The referee's question - Try, yes or no? - meant that the video official had to find definitive evidence in favour of awarding the score.

And, although it looked more than likely that Marx got the ball down, he couldn't find the smoking gun frame on the replay.

    But is the grounding clear?

Jerome Garces didn't see it so he is asking the eye in the sky for some help.
