Wales haven't taken Ireland through a few phases in a long, long time, they haven't played enough multi-phase rugby at all. Ireland just haven't let the Welsh get going whatsoever.

Breaking news as Wales make a rare break into the Ireland half. But, I don't even have time to tell you who made the break, as Ross Moriarty knocks the ball on and the attack comes to an abrupt end.

Wales are readying themselves to bring on Gareth Anscombe in the backs. If he can catch the ball, that'll be a good start.

CLOSE! That's nearly a fifth try for Ireland.

Johnny Sexton turns the ball over, passes to Conor Murray, who offloads to Keith Earls and the winger chips ahead. Yes, it really was that fast.

Earls loses the foot race though with the ball bobbling all over the place and Wales survive.

I can't keep up, and nor can Wales.

And with that, Wales change their entire front row.

Rob Evans, Ken Owens and Samson Lee are hauled off to be replaced by Elliot Dee, Wyn Jones and Tomas Francis.

But can they made a difference? First Wales need get hold of the ball to make a dent in this deficit.

    Cian Healy, missed con Sexton

If they can't go out wide, they'll go straight through you.

Prop Cian Healy gets his first try for Ireland in four years with a short drive over the line. Too easy for Ireland.

Johnny Sexton sends a very wobbly kick, very wide of the posts. I don't think Ireland will need those two points though.

An important tackle from Leigh Halfpenny to fell Conor Murray with Keith Earls ready to pounce outside him.

But Ireland can come again here and Wales are defending for their lives...

Dave: If Wales' Plan A was to soak up Irish pressure and score off turnover ball; I hope they've got a Plan B - at the moment they're just tiring themselves out making tackles.

Huge crowds give Scotland a rousing reception as they arrive at Murrayfield. Players piped in as fans cheer to the hilt. Atmosphere building nicely..

    Ireland 22-13 Wales

    Denis Hickie
Former Ireland winger on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Ireland are putting huge pressure on here - I'm actually surprised how effective their maul has been, and Wales who are traditionally strong against them, haven't been able to deal with it so far.

Wales concede the first line-out, but after giving up yet another penalty they recover to steal the next set-piece.

They're still under pressure though and the crowd know it. A deafening cry of 'Ireland, Ireland' rings around the Aviva in Dublin, and Wales now have a must-win scrum metres from their own line.

Ireland are going in search of that bonus-point score.

The Fields of Athenry rings out around the Aviva Stadium as the home crowd sense their team are taking the game away from Wales.

It's hard to argue with that view.

The battle between Keith Earls and Steff Evans goes into its 100th round. The two smallish (in height) wingers are forced to contest Johnny Sexton's monstrous cross-field kick.

Steff Evans claims the ball in the air but Earls recovers to drive him into touch. It's been a fascinating duel all afternoon and Ireland have made huge metres from that kick with an attacking line-out to come.

    Ireland 22-13 Wales

    Denis Hickie

The key bit of play there is the inter-play between Keith Earls and Rob Kearney, and getting it back inside to Conor Murray. The close runners are so good, Wales couldn't get near them. But they're so patient as well, I don't know how many phases they had, but they waited, and waited, and finally hit them where it hurt.

Wales are having to chase this game now and Dan Biggar, famed for his controlled kicking game, flings a wild pass to full-back Leigh Halfpenny who knocks the ball on.

Wales are not only conceding penalties and missing tackles, they're now dropping balls. Oh dear.

Sexton, who has found his kicking boots, slots an easy conversion.

A great turnover from Ireland as Jacob Stockdale puts Dan Biggar on his bottom. The Welsh fly-half protests but the hosts ignore his cries and launch into a counter-attack.

Scott Williams is calling for his Welsh defence to move wide as Ireland find space down the right-hand side.

Keith Earls speeds towards the try-line but Conor Murray overruns the pass inside. It's backwards though and Ireland can recycle.

  19. Wales to come on strong?published at 15:18 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2018

    Ireland 15-13 Wales

This might not be done just yet.

Russ Petty has crunched the historical trends and Wales tend to come on strong in the second half against Ireland.

And the men in green tend towards the opposite.

It will be no surprise that Ireland have possession at the start of the second half. They're currently burrowing away around the half-way line, but Conor Murray opts for a little kick to Leigh Halfpenny.

The full-back launches it back to Rob Kearney, who hashes the ball into no-man's land. Oh no wait, that was a drop-goal attempt.

    Shocking.
