It felt like Wales were doing a pretty good job in the first half, but now looking back, they didn't actually do an awful lot. Ireland have dominated possession and territory so far, so Wales have got a lot to do in this second 40 minutes.

Warren Gatland might well take a two-point deficit at half-time.

His team have been much further behind by almost every other measure.

    Possession, territory, you name it.

Wales have had to make 101 tackles compared to Ireland's 30.

Is that going to tell in the final quarter as legs and shoulders start to tire?

Johnny Sexton will be making Bundee Aki’s protein shake for him at half-time. The fly-half’s two missed penalties looked as though they were going to be the difference at the break until Aki scored with the clock already red.

The atmosphere is white-hot in here with the back-and-forth nature of the contest keeping everyone on the edge of their seat.

Ireland are arguably showing more of their attacking tricks so far, but it is Welsh indiscipline that is giving them field position - they've conceded six penalties already.

On more than one occasion Rory Best has pointed that out to Glen Jackson - will we see a yellow card in the second half?

That try on the stroke of half-time changes the complexion of things considerably.

But at least the scoreline now more accurately reflects the play, with Ireland dominating possession and territory and Wales feeding off scraps and the boot of Leigh Halfpenny.

It also woke up a crowd that had been oddly subdued until Bundee Aki touched down.

  8. 'Impressive Ireland'published at 15:03 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2018

    HT: Ireland 15-13 Wales

    Denis Hickie
Former Ireland winger on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

From an Irish perspective it's been impressive, especially dropping so many points early, but they've come back into it. They've dominated possession and territory, and they've gone ahead at the perfect time - just before half time.

Ireland have made 231 metres to Wales 51.

A bit of a landslide for the hosts.

Top of the pops for the home side is Keith Earls with 35 metres on the clock for the wing, with CJ Stander (34m), Dan Leavy and Johnny Sexton (both 25m) not too far behind.

  10. 'Well-worked try'published at 15:01 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2018

    Ireland 15-13 Wales

    Rob Jones
Former Wales scrum-half on BBC Radio 5 live extra

A well-worked try, Ireland didn't try to work it wide, they just kept battering at Wales' tryline, and it's worked. I don't think there are many teams better at that in world rugby.

But they don't need it. Bundee Aki bursts through and from a yard out he stretches out a long arm to plonk the ball over the line.

Ireland convert their pressure into points on the cusp of half-time. And Johnny Sexton adds the extras.

    Ireland 8-13 Wales

The clock is in red and Ireland are still burying away through Devin Toner.

Johnny Sexton brings in Cian Healy and Ireland make it to the five-metre line. Sexton then runs a loop play but he's held onto by Scott Williams... and the penalty is coming for Ireland!

SportsJoe correspondent Pat McCarry spotted something interesting after Johnny Sexton landed his first shot off the tee,,,

I'm sure it was 'jolly good kick old boy' or similar.

    Ireland 8-13 Wales

Conor Murray tries a sneaky one down the blindside but after minimal progress, Ireland, organised by captain Rory Best, resort to the pick-and-go through their forwards.

Murray sends up a box-kick and Jacob Stockdale collects well under pressure as the hosts make it up to the half-way line.

The Welsh defence has been so impressive this half, but they offer up yet another penalty through Aaron Shingler, he's offside and that's six penalties conceded for the half now.

Two minutes to go in this half and one final effort from Ireland.

  16. 'A real even battle'published at 14:54 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2018

    Ireland 8-13 Wales

    Denis Hickie
Former Ireland winger on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

It's a real even battle here, Ireland are playing some great stuff, keeping ball in hand. They believe in the game their coach wants them to play, and it's coming off so far, but they just need to get some more points on the board.

    Ireland 8-13 Wales

BBC Wales Sport's Gareth Williams in Dublin: Going as Wales Defence coach Shaun Edwards predicted. Wales will have to soak it up and hit back when they can. They lead 13-8 after plenty of defence and just one real attack.

And another reminder of Shaun Edwards' pre-match call...

Finally a clean one from Johnny Sexton. Ireland are back within five points.

    Ireland 5-13 Wales

What a turn of pace from Keith Earls!

The speedster leaves most of Wales in his wake and his Irish team-mates are also fighting to keep up with their pacey winger. Peter O'Mahony is the first to close the gap and Ireland just about manager to keep the ball.

The Irish crowd come to life as referee Glen Jackson screams penalty advantage and the forwards have the ball metres from the tryline.

The ball is held up by the Welsh defence, and what will the decision be? Posts it is.

  20. 'Wales have done their homework'published at 14:49 Greenwich Mean Time 24 February 2018

    Ireland 5-13 Wales

    Denis Hickie
Former Ireland winger on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

It seems to me like Wales have really done their homework here, they're absorbing the pressure, working hard in the tackle, but not over-committing. And as soon as they get down the other end - boom - they're getting the points.
