Former Lions and England centre on BBC One

Why would Ireland deviate from how they've been playing against England, when they've been playing so well? England didn't hit the ball hard and straight today, it was slug-like and ponderous. The backs were waiting for the ball but it was just so slow, whereas Ireland are a great side to watch.

Fred: England can't expect to win percentage rugby when they don't have a full contingent. Billy Vunipola a massive loss for his line-breaking and handling skill. Ben Youngs is a huge loss also. He has the vision and speed that an ageing Danny Care can't bring anymore.

Chris W: I didn't realise how much England needed Billy Vuniploa and Ben Youngs at 8 and 9 until this tournament.

  6. 'Ireland have clarity in their play'published at 19:26 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2018

    FT: France 22-16 England

    Paul O'Connell
Former Ireland captain on BBC One

Ireland have quite a lot of competition and have developed real depth. They have real clarity in how they want to play. Every player has clarity in every part of the pitch from five metres from own line to five from the opposition line. If you have that then you can execute with aggression.

Because England are trying to play with so much shape there is no physicality in their play at times.

  7. Ireland crowned championspublished at 19:24 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2018

With England's loss in Paris, England have been crowned Six Nations champions for the third time in five years.

That's three titles for head coach Joe Schmidt, who can win his first Grand Slam next weekend.

    Ireland win

Thanks Louise. Go have a lie down.

One Six Nations championship is decided but we've still got plenty to come. The very tasty clash between France women and England women is coming up from 20:00 GMT.

Until then I want to talk all things Ireland and also where Eddie Jones' England go from here.

I'll hand you over to Matt Henry, who will see you through all the reaction and England women's match against France women.

Fred: We were about 103 per cent off today, no vision or creativity, playing Manchester United rugby that's not paying off. One dimensional and slow. Bring back the Eddie Jones of 2016.

Anon: Two or three per cent off?! Give me a break, the score alone is nearer 40 per cent off. Eddie Jones needs to learn some humility...

John T. McCarthy: England 20% or 30% off being genuine World Cup contenders. Over-rated and over-promoted by Eddie Jones, arrogance has accelerated their downfall.

  11. 'Change coming for England'published at 19:15 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2018

    FT: France 22-16 England

Here's a bit more from Eddie Jones, this time speaking to BBC Radio 5 live.

“The game is changing at the moment which will enforce some selection changes. If you don’t have power, it’s very hard to get momentum.”

That very much sounds like there may be changes coming for England.

  13. 'We're disappointed'published at 19:10 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2018

    FT: France 22-16 England

More from England head coach Eddie Jones: "We played well towards the end of the game, our replacements made an impact, and we put ourselves in a position to win the game, and we probably should have done."

On facing Ireland next week:"We want to finish the tournament well, and against Ireland at home it's a big game. So we're disappointed not to be involved in the tournament anymore, but we still want to finish strong."

  14. 'Ireland difficult to stop'published at 19:07 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2018

    FT: France 22-16 England

    Jeremy Guscott
Former Lions and England centre on BBC One

England have got to add about 40 per cent to their performance levels to beat Ireland. Ireland don't give away many penalties at all, and that means they keep their momentum going. And that makes them very difficult to stop.

Andrew: Ireland, whose strength is at the breakdown, will have a field-day if the same England show up next week that showed up against Scotland and France.

Nick: Unfortunately the England squad has become a closed shop. Players picked on reputation rather than form. Eddie defends this by saying it takes too much time to bring players up to international speed. But bit him on the behind today!

Dominic Knill: England second best by a distance again. Lacking direction and dynamism. Really concerning how bad they look at the moment. Chapeau to France.

  17. We were about three per cent off today - Jonespublished at 18:59 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2018

    FT: France 22-16 England

England head coach Eddie Jones speaking to Sonja McLaughlan on BBC One: "It's a learning period for us, we're struggling at the moment, so we're always looking to learn and make sure we're stronger next time we play. We're going through a difficult period and we'll come out the other side of it soon I'm sure.

"We're about two or three per cent from where we needed to be today. We were beaten at the breakdown,we gave away too many penalties, and when we had the momentum we didn't score, whereas they did."

    FT: France 22-16 England

    Paul O'Connell
Former Ireland captain on BBC One

It is a great achievement for Ireland to be champions with a week to go. England were really poor today.

It is not the end of the world. You can't write players off but they were a long way off today and there is a lot of soul searching to be done.
