Australia go all the way left, and then right again through Israel Folau but the ball bobbles loose and skips around the Allianz Stadium surface like soap.

Eventually it's in Aussie hands, and stuck high into the Sydney sky. Up goes Jordan Larmour - superb take under pressure.

Folau's late to the tackle. Ireland penalty, and the full-back avoids another yellow.

Jacob Stockdale opens up down the left, desperately trying to shake off the golden arms wrapped around his thighs, but lands a foot in touch.

He took the pass from Johnny Sexton, who was obliterated by the thunderous Samu Kerevi when releasing the ball. Sexton's down, and I'm feeling winded just watching that one back.

Inside the final 10 minutes, and now we've got a real Test match on our hands.

Australia are pulled up as Joe Powell flings a forward pass. He's shrugging his shoulders in disbelief, that looked tight... fine, fine margins in Sydney.

Jordan Larmour drops a lovely side-step to take the visitors forward and finally they make it out of their own half...

But no, Johnny Sexton's pass is read by Samu Kerevi, who pops on to a supporting act only for Ireland's retreating defence to gobble Joe Powell up.

Australia are punching holes in this Ireland line.

This time it's Samu Kerevi who jabs his way through two tackles before being bundled to the ground around 20 metres out.

You feel the knockout blow is coming...

Bernard Foley opts to go for the sticks this time amid a smouldering tension in the Allianz Stadium.

That turns to groans from the home fans as the fly-half pulls his attempt wide of the far stick.

A let off for Ireland.

Marika Koroibete, the try-scorer, bulldozes his way into the Ireland 22 once more.

The visitors' tackle count is rising, as Australia keep it alive through Kurley Beale, to Dane Haylett-Petty and he finds Israel Folau wide on the right.

High tackle from Robbie Henshaw, and now Australia have a chance to turn this huge spell of pressure into a lead.

Jordan Larmour gets a chance to open his legs and gallop high-kneed into the Australian defence, but he can't make a dent in the gold and green armoury.

Both sides pour in, but Australia get the put-in for a scrum at halfway.

It's turning as Ireland fail to deal with the power of Taniela Tupou - the Tongan Thor - and Australia kick the penalty deep.

Andrew Priestley: Ireland desperately need to wrestle back some of this momentum. Territory will be crucial in the latter stages.

Dane Haylett-Petty looks to carve a route round the outside of the Ireland backs only to be dragged down by the collar. Lukhan Tui is waiting in the wings, but he's halted too.

Ireland breathe a sigh of relief, it's a scrum and their put-in. The visitors are under the cosh at the minute.

A mammoth 25 minutes to come for Ireland.

But they give up the penalty on halfway, and now the Sydney crowd is bubbling.

High-fives and fist pumps from those in gold and green.

That was an almost a wonderful score from Australia!

The hosts go blind, and Bernard Foley just helps a pass out to Israel Folau without fully catching it like he's playing volleyball down on the beach.

It falls short of the full-back, Ireland look to break themselves... but they're pulled back for an offside.

Plenty of frustrated looking faces in the Allianz Stadium crowd right now, from what you can make out beneath their golden flatcaps.

They get something to smile about as Ireland make a right mess of a scrum, and Bernard Foley pops one into the corner.

Line-out on the five-metre line for the hosts. They look to get numbers on the left, but CJ Stander leads the Irish defensive efforts to keep the Wallabies momentarily at bay.

One step closer to ending that 39-year wait for a series win down under...

The Wallabies aren't about to give this up without a scrap, mind. Kurtley Beale is stopped by Tadhg Furlong, and Brandon Paenga-Amosa's optimistic offload is fumbled by Bernard Foley.
