Nathan Hughes has backed former Wasps team-mate Danny Cipriani to shine on the international stage after being handed his first England start in a decade.

"Danny is a world-class player," the Fijian-born number eight said. "I've played with him for two years and before that I played against him.

"As an attacking player, he's very hard to defend against. He's a had a good week and a good camp and now he has the opportunity to start.

"People say things about Danny but they're not true. If you spend time with him you learn that he has a lot of time for people and he wants to get to know you and how you're feeling. That's what I love about him.

"Danny never gave up on England and has worked really hard to get back in the team."

England coach Eddie Jones, speaking to Sky Sports: "There has not been too much in the games. We had a good week preparation and the team has become a bit tighter. I think we will play with better execution when we are fatigued today.

On Danny Cipriani: "Danny has had a good week preparation and when you are the number 10 in these conditions you play a key role in the direction of your team. He has fought his way from outside of the 23 to be the starting 10 and he brings a lot of quality."

So how does the Australian respond to that run of defeats in his team selection this week?

Well, Chris Robshaw comes back into the England side just a week after being dropped by Eddie Jones for the first time.

Robshaw made way for Brad Shields at blindside-flanker for the second Test in Bloemfontein but the converted Kiwi is stricken with food poisoning.

Prop Joe Marler and number eight Nathan Hughes start in place of the unavailable Mako Vunipola and his injured brother Billy.

And, of course, Danny Cipriani replaces George Ford at 10.

South Africa v England (16:05 BST)

So what about the match - a dead rubber? No chance.

England may have already lost the series after South Africa won the opening two Tests, but Eddie Jones' side will be determined to halt a run of five successive defeats in their third and final outing against the Springboks.

"Everyone knows we are struggling," Jones admitted.

"We are going through this renewal period and it's tough. Someone has to take the team through it and I'm taking it through.

"I'm worried about coaching the team well. That's my job and that's what I love doing.

"We just have to get through this period, keep developing the young players, and snatch a win on Saturday."

Yes, it's been 10 years since Danny Cipriani was named as an England starter.

The last time the fly-half pulled on the number 10 shirt at international level it ended with his side suffering a record 42-6 defeat at Twickenham by then-world champions South Africa.

And it is against the Springboks that Cipriani, now 30, will mark his return to the starting XV.

It's been a chequered journey for Cipriani over the past decade, making headlines for the wrong reasons and suffering injuries at inopportune moments.

But, for the first time since November 2008, the Gloucester man is finally back in the fold.
