  1. That's all, folks...published at 22:03 British Summer Time 31 August 2018

    FT: Ospreys 17-13 Edinburgh

Sounds like a long journey home for Edinburgh and their coaching staff. Eight hours of analysis and introspection on the road.

For Ospreys, it's played one, won one, and a strong start from debutants Williams and North.

Next up, they host the Cheetahs in Swansea, while Edinburgh travel to Belfast for a date with Ulster and recently departed Scotland forwards coach Dan McFarland.

We'll be back tomorrow with live coverage from Glasgow Warriors' league opener against Connacht in Galway - do join us for that one.

Thanks for your company this evening, and have a great Friday night.

  2. 'Reality bites - that's where we stand now'published at 22:00 British Summer Time 31 August 2018

    FT: Ospreys 17-13 Edinburgh

Edinburgh head coach Richard Cockerill talking to BBC Scotland: "I'm more bothered where we sit after round 21 than round one.

"You saw the reaction of the Ospreys - they win their first game, they're delighted, like it's a cup final. That's where Edinburgh stand now in the pecking order. Reality bites a little bit, and we've got some work to do.

"We tried hard, we just were inaccurate and we've got to go and have a look at that - we've got eight hours on the bus home, so that'll give us some time to contemplate."

  3. 'Unacceptable' Edinburgh 'got what we deserved'published at 21:57 British Summer Time 31 August 2018

    FT: Ospreys 17-13 Edinburgh

Edinburgh head coach Richard Cockerill talking to BBC Radio Scotland: "Ospreys played half-decent rugby, it wasn't a great game, and we made so many errors with the ball.

"We'd spoken about controlling the ball and building pressure and we just didn't do it. One of those turnovers cost us seven points with George North's second try.

"I'm pleased we take a point away, I'm pleased we've got the minerals to stay in the game and we could've won it in the end.

"But we probably got exactly what we deserved. Frustrating night and we've got to get better.

"We knew they were going to tackle high, hold us up and strip the ball and five or six times we get held up and the balls tripped. Not acceptable. The players need to learn quickly, listen, do their home work and put it into action.

"If we were 10% more accurate, that's a game we could've won."

Our colleagues in Wales have written you a fine account of Edinburgh's opening-day defeat.

  5. Head-down rugby worries Wrightpublished at 21:32 British Summer Time 31 August 2018

What worried me was the amount of time I saw forwards with two hands wrapped round the ball, not even looking for off-loads.

I know it's difficult, you're getting smashed by big guys, but you've got to make sure you've got that ability in contact to put an off-load in.

One or two might privately think, 'I did ok', but if you look at the talent right through that Edinburgh team, every one of them will be disappointed with how they performed individually and collectively.

  6. Brilliant debut for Northpublished at 21:30 British Summer Time 31 August 2018

    FT: Ospreys 17-13 Edinburgh

George North crossed the whitewash twice this evening and posted some very tasty attacking stats.

    129m made from 10 carries.

    Four clean breaks.

    Seven defenders beaten.

It's brilliant to see the massive Wales and Lions wing back in full flight.

  7. 'It was there to be won for Edinburgh'published at 21:27 British Summer Time 31 August 2018

    FT: Ospreys 17-13 Edinburgh

    Peter Wright
Former Scotland prop on BBC Radio Scotland

Really unforced errors from Edinburgh after they got back in the game.

If Cockerill comes out with one word it'll be frustration. They coughed the ball up really cheaply. They just didn't have the discipline. They'll be really disappointed.

The way the game went, it was there to be won. I think Cockerill will go through the players in the changing room.

  8. 'It was very basic errors'published at 21:25 British Summer Time 31 August 2018

    FT: Ospreys 17-13 Edinburgh

    Colin Gregor
Former Scotland sevens captain on Radio Scotland

It was lapses of concentration. Three or four times in the first half the ball got stripped when Edinburgh were carrying into contact.

In the second half, once they got into the Ospreys 22, it was very basic errors. Dropped balls, eyes off the ball.

The flip side of that is that Richard Cockerill can take that as a positive in that they went down to Swansea, the Ospreys won by four and Edinburgh didn't play that well. They can fairly simply iron out those mistakes and if they do that, they're in a good position.

  9. Ruthlessness the differencepublished at 21:22 British Summer Time 31 August 2018

    FT: Ospreys 17-13 Edinburgh

    Tom English
    BBC Scotland's chief sports writer

The difference was Edinburgh's inability to capitalise on all their good field position in the second half - five or six visits to the Ospreys 22 and they came out with one 22.

Edinburgh had ample opportunity, if they were accurate enough, to win that game comfortably. They just weren't good enough. They spilled the ball deep in the Ospreys 22 time and time again.

  10. 'Poor decision' costs Edinburghpublished at 21:19 British Summer Time 31 August 2018

    FT: Ospreys 17-13 Edinburgh

    Peter Wright
Former Scotland prop on BBC Radio Scotland

Edinburgh are driving the ball towards the line it's moving at a reasonable rate and then it goes down. You've got to say it's Ospreys who have brought it down. But it's [referee John] Lacey at the breakdown so he's not going to give it. You've got to say it looks a poor decision.

  11. FULL-TIME Ospreys 17-13 Edinburghpublished at 21:18 British Summer Time 31 August 2018

So, Ospreys begin their Pro14 campaign with a scrappy victory over Edinburgh, whose nine-year wait for victory in Swansea continues.

Two tries from the deadly debutant George North decide a game that hung in the balance right until the death.

Edinburgh must settle for a bonus point but that was a match they will feel they ought to have won.

  12. Ospreys survivepublished at 21:18 British Summer Time 31 August 2018

    Ospreys 17-13 Edinburgh

Oh my, that was the moment for Edinburgh. The maul was trundling nicely towards the try-line, it hits the deck, but John Lacey says there was no infringement from the home side.

Ospreys have the scrum - they just need to win it, and boot the ball out for the victory.

  13. Postpublished at 21:17 British Summer Time 31 August 2018

    Ospreys 17-13 Edinburgh

It was a very, very gutsy move from Jaco van der Walt to kick possession away. It was all about the chase from Dougie Fife, though, who pressures Dan Evans into slicing out 10m from his own line.

Suddenly, Edinburgh have a line-out deep in Ospreys territory. What a finale...

Edinburgh have a line-out on the halfway line. There are about 90 seconds remaining. Let's see what they've got...

  15. 'Grandstand finish'published at 21:15 British Summer Time 31 August 2018

    Ospreys 17-13 Edinburgh

    Peter Wright
Former Scotland prop on BBC Radio Scotland

If you bring your key players into the game like Kinghorn and get him running at defenders from five yards out he's going to cause problems. It's set up a bit of a grandstand finish.

  16. Edinburgh must go from deeppublished at 21:15 British Summer Time 31 August 2018

    Ospreys 17-13 Edinburgh

Unsurprisingly, Ospreys kick-off deep and challenge Edinburgh to score from 80m

  17. converted try

Converted try Ospreys 17-13 Edinburghpublished at 21:14 British Summer Time 31 August 2018

    Jaco van der Walt

Van der Walt converts very well from way out on the left. A try wins it for Edinburgh. They've got three minutes to do it.

  18. try

Try Ospreys 17-11 Edinburghpublished at 21:13 British Summer Time 31 August 2018

    Blair Kinghorn

Well, well, well. We've got an exciting final few minutes now.

Jamie Ritchie makes the initial break down the right flank, driving deep into the Ospreys 22. A few pick-and-drives later, Kinghorn comes loping into the line from full-back as is his trademark, and powers over.

  19. Edinburgh looking 'rusty'published at 21:12 British Summer Time 31 August 2018

    Ospreys 17-6 Edinburgh

    Peter Wright
Former Scotland prop on BBC Radio Scotland

It's rusty, it looks like they've not had much game time together. If Edinburgh could just get a score to give themselves some confidence.
