It's turgid. Ospreys are trying to really bash the Edinburgh defence but it's been pretty solid. They're keeping players on their feet and not committing many to the breakdown. Their line speed is good in defence, their execution of the tackle is really positive.

Edinburgh putting huge pressure on themselves with so many daft errors, They can’t keep the ball and are gifting it back to the Ospreys. Their penalty count is rising. In the first 10 minutes the Ospreys had 87% possession and 98% territory. Incredible. Still 0-0, which is an achievement for the visitors given that they’ve had zero ball and lots of mistakes.

At long last, Edinburgh have some ball near the halfway line and look to push Ospreys back into their own territory.

Worryingly for the home side, George North is nursing an injury after a collision with Hamish Watson

Another Ospreys attack ends with another knock-on. They've been utterly, entirely dominant thus far but will be pretty peeved not to have turned that supremacy into points.

Sitting in our Glasgow studio, I can just about hear Richard Cockerill's cries of anguish all the way from Swansea.

Edinburgh have shipped five penalties so far. We're 14 minutes in. Whatever you make of the refereeing, that's a shocking stat.

Some of the angles the Ospreys have been going in at the breakdown - they've been diving in at the side. There's so much John Lacey should be penalising.

A loose pass in the Ospreys midfield releases the pressure on Edinburgh. Blair Kinghorn hacks it downfield and hares off in pursuit. Matt Scott is up there with him, but George North and Justin Tipuric cover back really well.

The possession and territory stats in the opening 10 minutes will make grim reading for Richard Cockerill and Edinburgh.

The hosts have had all the ball, all the field position, and all the chances. They're camped on the Edinburgh 22 once more.

Well, that's what George North is all about. The monstrous winger slips Duhan van der Merwe's tackle and batters up the right flank. Van der Merwe recovers to bundle North into touch a few metres short.

It's all Ospreys so far. Edinburgh haven't had a sniff and are hemmed in their own 22.

Poor from Matt Scott, he just sticks the hand out and it's a deliberate knock on for the penalty. Van der Merwe could've caught the ball from the drop out but he misses it and then Scott just sticks his hand out. Poor stuff.

The fly-half drags his effort wide and it remains scoreless.

Edinburgh clear from the 22 drop-out but concede a penalty just inside their own half. Luke Price goes for three points...

There was acres of space in behind the Edinburgh defensive line, and it's a matter of milimetres as to who touches the ball down first.

Pyrgos is adjuged to have hared back and grounded the ball in the nick of time. The scrum-half did well from his position wide on the left flank to turn and bolt back over his own try-line.

Dan Evans scampers after a delicate Scott Williams kick...did the full-back ground the ball? Or did Henry Pyrgos save the day for Edinburgh?

First chance for the Ospreys to attack from a line-out on the Edinburgh 22, and they're using their forwards to bludgeon into the danger zone.

Duhan van der Merwe is a massive presence on Edinburgh's left wing, and he's involved right from the kick-off.

The 6'4 South African follows up his own kick-and-chase, but can't quite grasp the ball from the air.

Ospreys have the scrum, and it's a powerful one - the hosts win the first penalty of the night.

It is something of a novelty to be writing so many nice things about an Edinburgh team. They've not been much fun to cover - and even less fun, I imagine, to support - in recent years, but Richard Cockerill is changing all that.

Can they live up to this new-found optimism?

Richard Cockerill and our esteemed pundits are right - three away matches from their opening four league fixtures is a pretty tough start for Edinburgh.

After tonight's game, they head for Belfast and a date with Ulster - another of the league's big guns aiming to emerge from a grim previous seasons.

Then it's Connacht at home, followed by a trip to Pro14 and Champions Cup holders Leinster, the undisputed kings of Europe.

Luke Hamilton needs to prove himself. He's an international but he's never really cemented a position anywhere he's been. Edinburgh have given him an opportunity and I want to see him doing consistent work at the breakdown, good tackles, good workrate and take this team to the next level.
