If you're wondering how to stop a 115kg Fijian in full flight, Justin Tipuric has just given a brilliant demonstration.

Textbook low, cheek-to-bum-cheek tackle from the Ospreys captain, who bring Viliame Mata crashing to deck.

That fairly innocuous "hit" from Pyrgos on Price has spelled the end of the fly-half's game. He's helped off, and Sam Davies replaces him.

Ospreys attack, but are penalised for holding on, and play stops with Luke Price down and hurt. The fly-half was caught slightly late by Henry Pyrgos, but there's nothing in it.

And after that fleeting passage of broken play, we're back to grappling and grinding. Hamish Watson, Edinburgh's feisty open-side, is choke-tackled, held up, and turned over for an Ospreys scrum on halfway.

This, as the late, great Bill McLaren might have said, is harem-scarem stuff. Ospreys fly forward down the right through Hanno Dirksen - about three knock-ons and two fly-hacks later, Edinburgh have a line-out on their own 22.

I'm impressed with [Simon] Hickey. You can see he's trying to bring his outside backs into the game he's having a go himself, he's a threat. He's trying to put in little kicks behind the Ospreys defence so after 30 minutes it's a half-decent debut.

And right from the kick-off, Ospreys will have a chance to level. Edinburgh penalised for holding on...

The Kiwi fly-half is off the mark for his new team and Edinburgh have the lead.

Both defences are quick and have good line speed so you've got to find another way. So maybe little kicks in behind or little chip-kicks. I'm not a fan of chip-kicks but if it stops the defence coming up...you've got to find something else.

This is better from Edinburgh, as Blair Kinghorn comes loping into play off Simon Hickey and probes a teasing grubber kick in behind the Ospreys backline. Hanno Dirksen has to run it out of play.

Edinburgh have the maul, but it's brilliantly cocooned by the home pack, who win a scrum.

Still, after starting so heavily on the back foot, the possession stats are now in Edinburgh's favour by a single percentage point.

Luke Hamilton averts his eyes as Edinburgh's medical team attend to what appears to be a damaged finger. A wee bit of magic spray, a spot of tape, and the flanker is back in the game.

Who says the game's going soft?

We've seen a lot of this tonight...big, muscle-bound brutes with the ball tucked under one arm. Not much attacking elan on show so far.

It is a maul, but it's a very untidy one. The Ospreys splinter Edinburgh into two pods, and Hickey's chip-kick is hoovered up and cleared.

Edinburgh have a penalty on the halfway line and Simon Hickey punts play down to the Ospreys 22. You'd imagine a driving maul will be the order of the day here...

Again, Ospreys strip the ball. The first bit of Edinburgh attack but very similar to Ospreys, they're trying to bludgeon it up. The challenge is to bludgeon it and then get quick ball, but there are so many hands slowing the ball down, the scrum-halves aren't getting it.

If this keeps up, it's going to be a long, hard season...
