So that is indeed half-time in Coventry and it's Gloucester who will go in the happier.

Wasps enjoyed the better of the early stages and led through Dan Robson's try but once Danny Cipriani found his mojo and his kicking books then Gloucester have opened up a lead they can work with.

    David Ribbans, missed con

The decision from today's TMO Sean Davey is that David Ribbans did successfully ground the ball over the line.

Dan Bigger shakes his head after missing the conversion and both sets of players race back into the dressing rooms for a breather.

  3. Postpublished at 44 mins

    Northampton 5-20 Leicester

This time the scrum is completed and Saints get the ball out.

Dan Biggar decides to drive hard at his opposite number but George Ford stands up well. Next, Northampton decide to keep it tight and let the forwards have another go...they're repeatedly pushed back but on the seventh phase look to be over the line. It's TMO time.

  4. Missed penaltypublished at 15:49 British Summer Time 6 October 2018

    Wasps 7-20 Gloucester

With the last play of the half Billy Searle misses the chance to cut Wasps' deficit as his angled penalty from 30m out drifts the wrong side of the posts.

  5. Postpublished at 43 mins

    Northampton 5-20 Leicester

Leicester are penalised for an early shove and Saints decide to go for another scrum... 43 minutes and 45 seconds on the clock now. Can they make this opportunity count? Big moments.

  6. Half-time: Sale 3-7 Newcastlepublished at 15:47 British Summer Time 6 October 2018

A slow start to the game but we got some points in the end.

Neither side could maintain possession in the early stages but with seven minutes of the half left Sale went ahead through the boot of AJ MacGinty. Falcons captain Will Welch then crossed the line a few minutes later with Joel Hodgson adding the conversion to give Newcastle the edge at the break.

    Northampton 5-20 Leicester

With 40 seconds to go before the break the Saints have one final opportunity courtesy of a five-metre scrum.

Once again, Leicester hold firm despite the significant advances of Andrew Kellaway. The centre can't do it alone, though, and after the forwards get involved the 'home' maul is again held up. There's just time for one final scrum.

  8. 'Leicester are playing the conditions well'published at 15:44 British Summer Time 6 October 2018

    Northampton 5-20 Leicester

    Lennie Newman
Former Northampton Saints player and manager on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Leicester are playing the conditions well and Northampton are not, they are not over complicating things.

What is the game plan for Northampton? Leicester's you can see is they are getting the ball and trying to turn Northampton's big men and also they really are putting two or three men into contact around the base of every ruck and maul.

  9. try

Try: Sale 3-7 Newcastlepublished at 15:43 British Summer Time 6 October 2018

    Will Welch, con Joel Hodgson

Just after Sale had put their noses in front, the Falcons strike back through captain Will Welch.

Newcastle had a line-out in Sale's 22, the forward pack controlled the ball towards the posts with Welch eventually crossing the line and Hodgson adding the extras.

  11. Postpublished at 37 mins

    Northampton 5-20 Leicester

For the first time this afternoon Leicester's work at the scrum goes array and Saints gain the ball back.

Andrew Kellaway's chip and collect brings them to within a metre before the forwards decide that it's time for them to take charge. The Tigers' D does enough, this time, as Northampton are held up over the line.

  12. Postpublished at 34 mins

    Northampton 5-20 Leicester

In a flash Leicester have taken control of this one on the board and Northampton know that a score (or two) is required before the break.

They are pressing in the red zone but Api Ratuniyarawa's knock-on halts their endeavour. Opportunity missed.

  13. Penalty: Sale 3-0 Newcastlepublished at 15:38 British Summer Time 6 October 2018

    AJ MacGinty

It has been a scrappy start to this match with neither side managing to keep possession.

Sale won a line-out and Josh Strauss made a break to be 5m out from the posts when Newcastle gave away a penalty for not releasing to give AJ MacGinty an easy kick at goal.

  14. try

Try: Northampton 5-20 Leicesterpublished at 15:37 British Summer Time 6 October 2018

    Jordan Olowofela. con George Ford

Jonah Holmes is absolutely tearing this game apart right now and he's the man to step around a couple of defenders and set young Jordan Olowofela away.

Harry Mallinder almost gets across on the cover tackle but Olowofela uses the wet surface well and slides in for his first Premiership try. George Ford makes an excellent conversion from out wide.

Dan Biggar's high ball doesn't have any great distance on it and instead it's gobbled up by Adam Thompstone.

The wing combines brilliantly with Jonah Holmes and his flat pass puts Ben Youngs clear in front of the sticks. George Ford converts.

If the Saints are to win they have to sort out the set piece, it's not been clinical at all and even if you are struggling in the scrummage you've got to get your line-out solid and neither have been that.

  17. Postpublished at 27 mins

    Northampton 5-6 Leicester

"I had a Leicester player taking me out off the ball, give me a chance!"

JP Doyle gets very close to the action once again! Play was paused anyway after a knock-on from Saints.

Once again, the visiting scrum is dominant but Harry Mallinder does excellently to scoop up a George Ford chip before Manu Tuilagi can get there. Mallinder is playing superbly today.

  18. Penalty: Northampton 5-6 Leicesterpublished at 24 mins

    George Ford

This time George Ford finds the middle of the uprights and the visitors edge back ahead.

The penalty arrived as a result of Leicester's dominant scrum, they're working well in that area so far today.

  19. Postpublished at 21 mins

    Northampton 5-3 Leicester

Guy Thompson, one of Leicester's talented new signings, breaks up-field at pace. He chips through and shows the speed that he possesses having formally played sevens.

However, the ball just slides out of his hands as he tries to collect it and find Manu Tuilagi.

    Suddenly Gloucester hit the front.

No sooner has Danny Cipriani kicked the Cherry and Whites in front with a penalty then Charlie Sharples runs a support line to take Tom Hudson's pass and race over.

    Sucker punch for Wasps.
