Clear and obvious is supposed to mean just that. That was marginal, these are things that do go against you. It's the referees' interpretation and England have to live with it.

The referee remember is Jerome Garces - the man who sent off Sonny Bill Williams against the Lions last summer.

And he has ruled that Lawes was offside as he raced up to charge down TJ Perenara's kick.

    Lawes grimaces in anguish...

I think he's in front of the backfoot there, he's in front of the whole England back line which makes it look even worse.

It looks for all the world a good try.

Gareth Vaughan: Erm.... are we actually seeing New Zealand paying England the ultimate compliment by copying their game plan? Simple pop up rugby, tactical kicking AND drop goals?

Doug Waller: It’s been a good performance so far but I’d just love to see the Back 3 run at the All Blacks rather than keep kicking it.

Chris H: Don't think there's any doubt the next world champion will be one of England and NZ.

Unlike last week when England's bench added significantly to the cause against South Africa, today they've detracted from the players they've replaced. The argument for keeping on players who play well is one to be considered.

The worry with Ford coming on is that the All Blacks are just going to run straight at him - they've lost the powerhouse in Ben Te'o.

However, that 10-12 axis with Farrell when it works, works excellently for England so offensively it could be a great move.

It's been excellent defence from Maro Itoje, putting in a real shift. We asked the question in the week: How well will the leaders step up?

Itoje has answered that with an immense performance on the gain line.

Thirteen minutes left, I quite liked that quick dart from Danny Care down the blind side off quick ball and that's not something we've seen much of today.
