The big thing about this game is that you want to get in the lead. It’s such a nip and tuck game, that being in the lead gives you the advantage slightly. But I think there’s still more scores to come.

Looking at that Edinburgh back-row because we felt that they’ve got an edge – Ritchie playing blindside, Watson on the openside and Mata as well has had such an influence on this game. You wonder if Gregor Townsend might look at a combination of Ritchie and Watson starting blindside and openside although I think Magnus Bradbury might have a say in that.

Over she goes. Edinburgh edge ahead.

  4. Hickey goes for three...published at 16:10 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Edinburgh 7-7 Glasgow Warriors

Edinburgh can't get over the line, but they do win a penalty. Zander Fagerson seems to wedge his gigantic frame over every single breakdown, but gets penalised for going off his feet. Simon Hickey goes for the sticks, left of centre, around 20m out.

Simon Berghan is on for WP Nel as Edinburgh go through the phases between the Glasgow 10m line and 22, Bill Mata at the forefront, unsurprisingly.

...the attack is short-lived. Jamie Ritchie, a complete mongrel of a back-row, gets all over Glasgow ball, takes a mountain of punishment from the arriving clearers, and wins Edinburgh a penalty.

If he were a boxer, he'd have a hell of a chin.

Clever rugby from Glasgow. Adam Hastings pings the ball right down towards the Edinburgh line, and Nic Groom can't make much yardage with the clearance.

    Here come the Warriors again...

Just a couple of yards squint with the line-out throw from Mike Willemse. Glasgow scrum on halfway and a chance to open the second half with a big strike play.

In fact, they win a free-kick and set off on the run.

Here we go again. Blair Kinghorn gets this massive second half under way.

  10. Who wins it?published at 16:00 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

Time for a quick and highly unscientific poll as the teams re-emerge.

Hit thumbs-up if you reckon Edinburgh will win this.

Click thumbs-down if you're predicting a Glasgow win.

If Huw Jones can keep this form up, he's going to be right in contention for Scotland again.

When you've got someone like Duhan van der Merwe, I'd say Richard Cockerill can't wait for him to get hands on the ball. Every time he gets hands on the ball, something happens. He is just a savage rugby player when he gets up a head of steam.

It’s been an entertaining first half. It’s only 7-7 but certainly entertaining and certainly more attacking, open-minded rugby than we thought at the start of the game.

  15. Half-time Edinburgh 7-7 Glasgow Warriorspublished at 15:48 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

Absolutely nothing in this at half-time. An open, scrappy, defence-dominated but nonetheless enjoyable opening 40 minutes.

Two cracking converted tries - the first for Edinburgh's Darcy Graham, the second for Huw Jones of Glasgow - mean it's honours even at the interval.

    Edinburgh 7-7 Glasgow Warriors

Chaos erupts on the Edinburgh 22 as Simon Hickey and Darcy Graham run the ball out from deep.

Hickey initially does well but then can't take the return pass from Graham.

Glasgow have turnover ball and a real chance to strike but then they fumble at the base of a ruck and Edinburgh are off the hook.

Meanwhile, there's another wounded soldier in home ranks, George Taylor heading off for a head injury assessment after thumping Ruaridh Jackson. Matt Scott is on as we enter the final minute of the first half.

  17. 'Kicking is an art'published at 15:45 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Edinburgh 7-7 Glasgow Warriors

    Quote Message

One of my biggest gripes is the quality of the kicking throughout the game is very, very poor. You don’t see strategic kicking – you see aimless kicking. Kicking is an art and I think the modern game relies too much on an element of safety and the skill is not executed by these players as well as it used to be.

  18. Edinburgh lose their captainpublished at 15:43 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Edinburgh 7-7 Glasgow Warriors

Concerning sights for Edinburgh as two of their biggest hitters, Hamish Watson and captain Stuart McInally, need treatment.

Watson - who suffered a grievous knee injury at the Rugby World Cup - is patched up, but McInally troops off to be replaced by Mike Willemse. That's a big loss.

  19. Big defencepublished at 15:41 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Edinburgh 7-7 Glasgow Warriors

Edinburgh are going backwards. The defences really are dominating. Glasgow pile men into the breakdowns and force Edinburgh to scrap for every single inch.

They're being shunted back with every phase and eventually Blair Kinghorn shanks one out on the full.

  20. Postpublished at 15:39 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

This time, it's the Edinburgh line-out that misfires as the ball is fumbled forward by Ben Toolis. Adam Hastings dances inside one tackle, but is quickly swamped by Hamish Watson and Bill Mata.

Good luck clearing out that pair. Penalty Edinburgh. The home pressure is back on again.
