  1. Jones dazzlespublished at 15:11 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Edinburgh 0-0 Glasgow Warriors

That's the Huw Jones all Scotland fans want to see (although perhaps, for today only, not the Edinburgh contingent among them). The centre runs a trademark arcing angle, dummies, and suddenly he's bursting towards the Edinburgh 22 and feeding Ali Price on the inside support line.

DTH van der Merwe is hauled down but Glasgow are still in possession in the danger zone.

You’d think a kicker of Hasting’s quality would get that. I think the game could be tight like last week so those kicks are vital.

  3. Missed penaltypublished at 15:09 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Edinburgh 0-0 Glasgow Warriors

Adam Hastings struck four from four last weekend, but he's hit that one poorly. It's a scruffy-looking kick and it falls wide of the uprights. Still scoreless. This game is being played at a fair old clip.

  4. Postpublished at 15:08 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Edinburgh 0-0 Glasgow Warriors

Penalty Glasgow. Mark Bennett goes rushing back on to an awkwardly bouncing Hastings kick. His team-mates can't get back quickly enough to rescue him and the Warriors forwards power over the top on the counter-ruck.

Hastings is going to go for goal from around 40m.

  5. Postpublished at 15:07 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Edinburgh 0-0 Glasgow Warriors

An odd decision by Nic Groom to hoist up a box kick on the edge of the Glasgow 22 and Adam Hastings bangs it back downfield with interest.

Possession changes hands a couple of times before Edinburgh claim it back and begin to work their way into the Glasgow half again, centre George Taylor at the fore with the heavy lifting.

A very open, frenetic and scrappy beginning.

  6. Off go Edinburghpublished at 15:05 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Edinburgh 0-0 Glasgow Warriors

Grant Gilchrist soars like a salmon to pinch the first Glasgow line-out of the match and Duhan van der Merwe blasts his way into Warriors territory.

A first attacking opportunity for the home side inside two minutes.

  7. Kick-offpublished at 15:03 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Edinburgh 0-0 Glasgow Warriors

The second 1872 Cup showdown is under way! Adam Hastings hoists the kick-off into the crisp capital air.

  8. Postpublished at 15:02 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Edinburgh 0-0 Glasgow Warriors

Before the action begins, there's a minute's applause for the former Scottish Rugby president Fred McLeod, who passed away this week.

  9. 'I like that Edinburgh back-row'published at 15:01 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

I like that Edinburgh back-row. They’re all ball-carriers. They’ve all got huge work rates and they complement each other pretty well. Whereas for me, the Glasgow back-row are all similar in that they all don’t all carry particularly strongly. You could argue that all three of them are defensive-minded players whereas Edinburgh’s three have got a lot of attack. So I expect Edinburgh to win. I think the front fives will be very even but I expect the Edinburgh back-row to be better than Glasgow and that’s where they’ll win the game.

  10. Here come the teamspublished at 14:59 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

Right then. Two minutes to kick-off. Out come the teams. Over 26,000 fans welcome them on to the Murrayfield paddock.

  11. 'We're playing the same enemy'published at 14:58 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Edinburgh v Glasgow Warriors (15:00)

Glasgow Warriors head coach Dave Rennie on BBC Radio Scotland: "The last couple of years I’ve had to put up with a loss on Christmas Day so I’ve been a bit grumpy. But it’s good – we’ve moved on from there and got a big game today.

"If you look at the detail [from last weekend], I thought we defended really well. We played without a lot of ball – only had 30% possession in the first half. But we turned them over a lot. I thought we defused their kicking game which is always important and we were clinical late in the game when it counted.

"Our mental side of the game has got to be massive again. We’re playing the same enemy. We’ve got to make sure we’ve got the same sort of desperation and intensity today that we had last week."

  12. Bennett staying putpublished at 14:55 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Edinburgh v Glasgow Warriors (15:00)

Speaking of forgotten Scottish centres, there was a late but very welcome Christmas present for Edinburgh fans on Boxing Day with three players signing new deals.

Luke Crosbie and Lewis Carmichael are excellent young forwards, but the big news is that Mark Bennett has committed his future to the capital club.

The midfielder has been absolutely ravaged by injuries these past two years, but at long last, he is fit and firing and delivering some brilliant stuff for Edinburgh.

The former Glasgow man loves these derbies, chances to get one over his former side.

  13. Can Huw Jones continue his return to form?published at 14:52 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

He came through that World Cup training phase where he wasn’t selected by Gregor Townsend. All the media were nipping him, all the players were nipping him that his form wasn’t quite there, there were questions over his defence. He got his chance a couple of weeks ago and he’s looking sharp, he’s looking really committed and he’s trying to forge that relationship with Sam Johnson. Can he develop a game today that ignites the rest of his career and forces him back in to Townsend's Six Nations plans?

  14. Dangerous Duhanpublished at 14:49 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Edinburgh v Glasgow Warriors (15:00)

The hulking figure of Duhan van der Merwe is a lethal presence for Edinburgh on the wing.

He made his 50th appearance last weekend and tops the Pro14 charts for clean breaks, making 15 this season already.

Definitely one to watch this afternoon on the sprawling Murrayfield paddock...

  15. Are Johnson and Jones Scotland's top centres?published at 14:48 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Edinburgh v Glasgow Warriors (15:00)

    Scott Hastings
Former Scotland player on BBC Radio Scotland

    Quote Message

You could be looking at a Scotland centre pairing in Sam Johnson and Huw Jones, especially if Jones fires. Johnson has not hit the heights that got him into the Scotland team last year and I would like to see him carry more into contact to allow more space to open up outside.

  16. 'I'd love to play today'published at 14:44 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Edinburgh v Glasgow Warriors (15:00)

Edinburgh head coach Richard Cockerill on BBC Radio Scotland: "When we get moments, we have to execute, we have to a bit tougher at the contact area at times, and make sure when he have the ball we are very physical and direct.

"It was tiny margins last week, but as a club we are developing on and off the field and this is part of our development – we’re under pressure to perform today, that’s good, and I want to see how we react to that.

"I'd love to play today. I woke up at 05:00 this morning and couldn't get back to sleep. This is what you play and coach for. I feel like I did when I was a player coming to a ground, a bit nervous, a bit anxious, and the easiest thing to do is stick your boots on and hum into the Glasgow boys. But Dave Rennie's too big for me, so I'm not going to take him on!"

  19. What happened last week?published at 14:36 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Edinburgh v Glasgow Warriors (15:00)

In short, 65 minutes of mistake-ridden, infringement-laden muck, followed by 15 minutes of blistering drama.

Edinburgh led 9-6 heading in to the final quarter of an hour when a scintillating Ali Price try ignited the contest.

Six minutes later, Blair Kinghorn galloped over for Edinburgh and looked very much like snatching victory for Richard Cockerill's men.

But with three minutes remaining, George Turner burrowed home from a powerful maul, and Glasgow withstood a frenetic period of Edinburgh attack with the clock red.

We also had five - yes, five - yellow cards. More excitement, more tries, and fewer sin-binnings today, please.

  20. Well, aye...published at 14:34 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2019

    Edinburgh v Glasgow Warriors (15:00)

Today's attendance will be a record for an 1872 Cup fixture, albeit it won't have Murrayfield as "packed out" as Edinburgh's Twitter operator would suggest.

    Still, a fine occasion beckons.
