So England remain second in the table, despite claiming their third victory, after missing out on the bonus point.

France are still on target for the Grand Slam and they resume their campaign against Scotland on Sunday (15:00 GMT).

Wales stay fourth and they can be overtaken by Scotland, if Gregor Townsend's men beat table-topping France at Murrayfield.

England coach Eddie Jones, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "There was only one team that was ever going to win the game and that was us. We led in the first half and allowed them back in at the start of second half then got ourselves in a good winning position and they were chasing their tail. They played some good rugby at the end. We had people missing off the field and couldn't seem to do anything right with the referee. It was difficult.

"I don't know what Manu is supposed to do in that situation. I don't know how he is supposed to tackle the guy. How else do you tackle if you don't tackle with your shoulder? The guy is like literally half metre off the ground. I just find that bizarre.

"I find the whole thing ridiculous but that is the way it is and we had to cope with it. On Wednesday we trained 13 against 16 so we had some experience and that helped us."

Nick Powell: Happy England fan but regardless of whether the Tuilagi tackle is a red or yellow, general discipline remains a major issue. Has cost them games under Jones and has prevented them having a chance of getting a potentially important bonus point against Ireland or Wales.

England head coach Eddie Jones: "We were expecting a tough test right to the end and we got it, but when you get 13 against 16, it's pretty hard.

"We've moved on as a team. You look at the Six Nations, we had a slow start, because as I've explained I didn't prepare the team very well, and since then we've been very good. We played well in Scotland in poor conditions, brilliantly in the first 40 minutes against Ireland and then a tough display tonight against a good Welsh team.

"We trained on Wednesday... The whole session was 13 v 16, so we had some practice - we thought it might happen. Is that a red card all the time? Well, it's not. It's not refereed like that, but it was today. We've got to take that on board, but how else do you stop the player?"

So that's what Wayne Pivac thought of this afternoon, but what about opposite number Eddie Jones?

Wales head coach Wayne Pivac speaking to ITV: "It was a game that we're disappointed not to come out on top in. We gave England a good start, we played a bit too much rugby and they were good enough to capitalise on our mistakes. After half-time, we started the way we wanted to, but we let England back in again.

"We're our own worst enemies at the minute. We're working hard behind the scenes to get it right over the 80 minutes, and I think we're heading in the right direction. We're contributing to the result in terms of too many errors. Next week is a massive opportunity to go out and try to rectify that.

"There are times you can see what we're trying to do. In the second half, there were some good attacking raids with multiple phases when we put England under pressure. If we can do that for longer periods in games, and get our game management a little bit better, we'll be in a pretty good space."

Predecessor Warren Gatland delivered the Grand Slam in his final campaign in charge, but Pivac has lost his last three games as coach.

It was always going to be difficult after Warren Gatland leaving. They looked a little more dangerous, but they've got to learn to vary their tactics. England were always on the front foot. Questions will be asked, obviously. There are selection issues in the back three, in the midfield, so we'll have to see.

England have bounced back from a poor performance against France and now they're looking like the sort of team we saw in the World Cup. They've got plenty to build on. We won't know the result for a few months, if at all, but there's plenty to keep them occupied.

England captain Owen Farrell: "I thought we stayed calm in key moments. We were composed. Wales are a great team, they're always going to throw everything at us and have their moments, which they did. But under the sticks, it felt good, it felt calm.

"We got points back at the right times and seemed to be in control. We enjoy defending, being physical. At times I thought we got off the line and put them under some pressure, and that's a big part of the game at the minute."

Wales captain Alun Wyn Jones, speaking to ITV: "We probably made a couple of territorial giveaways in the first half. Then you are chasing the game a little bit.

"Unfortunately they capitalised on a couple of bits of indiscipline and kept the scoreboard at bay. It shows what we can do with those two tries. It was too little too late in the end.

"However, ultimately, if don't win it doesn't matter. That is where we find ourselves today."

England scrum-half Ben Youngs on ITV: "Whenever we felt we got control Wales are so good at staying in the fight. They battled hard and our discipline gave they easy leg-ups. They are clinical enough to punish you. It was tight in the end.

"We always try to come out with intensity and did that. We were able keep hold of game and control of it early on, a bit like they did in the second half. Rugby is bizarre at times.

On winning his 99th cap: "Every opportunity you get is a privilege. To do it 99 times I am incredibly proud of it. I will do everything I can to get a fair few more."

England were disciplined in their tactics and execution. Unfortunately, that wonder try from Wales at the beginning of the second half just rocked England a bit, and they couldn't quite get back into their pattern.

Wales played much, much better in the second half, they threw a bit of caution to wind. They were not going to win this game with the tactics they employed for the first 40 minutes. It would have been a genuinely nail-biting, tense last few minutes if they'd done that earlier.

That final quarter shows what might have been for Wales but it's a third successive Six Nations defeat for the first time since 2007.

England have won that contact area around the rucks and mauls with aggressive defence. Once it broke up a little bit, Wales were in it, although of course it's a huge advantage when you've got a player sent off and a player in the bin.

England are deserved winners and the scoreline does not reflect their dominance, but Wales applied the pressure late on and the hosts' lack of discipline saw them finish with 13 men.

The Triple Crown goes to Owen Farrell and his men, and the title might still end up in their grasp depending on how and when postponed fixtures are rescheduled.
