England have two weeks to prepare for their next assignment - a trip to Cardiff.

Then it is France at home and Ireland away. Could go either way this campaign still for Eddie Jones' men.

England captain Owen Farrell speaking to ITV Sport: "That was back to being us. Not the best performance we have ever had but in terms of the feeling energy and intent that was back to being us.

"We had some honest conversations in the week, and got things right on the training field. I thought we attacked the game, our intent was brilliant, we got in behind them, not everything went our way but we stuck at it."

England prop Kyle Sinckler speaking to ITV Sport: "It was a step in the right direction, we probably didn't get the rewards we wanted but in terms of intent, and showing what it means to play for our country it was a step in the right direction.

"We knew we had to step up, and play the England way - dominate up front, which we did at times, but we know we have more to give.

"Credit to Italy - they were tough and never gave up. The forwards carried hard, backs had energy and it was a tough test but we stuck in for the win."

AJ: Big questions over England still after that. Ford is currently better than Farrell. Daly and Youngs aren't contributing enough. And the general lack of execution/accuracy etc is just frustrating to watch. Jones will just brush it off. Underwhelming and unsatisfying

They may be losing by 20+ points and 40+ previously, I do think there have been worse Italy teams than this one, scoreline doesn't reflect the team.

England probably felt like they were a couple of tries short off a clinical performance – it was workmanlike. There are still inaccuracies and indiscipline. Knowing the standards they set, they will want to get back to the glory days of 2019. A seven out of 10 performance.

A huge improvement from last weekend, and also the intensity of what they've been doing, led by Anthony Watson.

The penalty count will be something they definitely will look at next week. Against France, Ireland, Wales they need to get it down because they will punish you.

All done. A lot more to like about that performance from England. Plenty of positives from Italy - if a 29th successive defeat in the Six Nations.

There's been intent from England - I'm saying this is a step forward from last week.

George Ford gets over the line, but is held on his back like a beached turtle by Federico Ruzza and a team-mate. Superb spirited defence by Italy who have stayed in the fight until the end.

There is more to do here though with Dan Robson putting into a scrum five....

The difference with Robson is amazing. Randall would be as good I suspect but surely the legacy players in Ford, Farrell, Youngs have had their day.......

What about Dan Robson's impact? I am really enjoying how he is testing the fringes, popping it around - I'd like to see him get some time under his belt. There are some good forwards out there, I'd like to see how he would orchestrate them.

    Elliot Daly (con Farrell)

    And an immediate response....

It is nice play from Dan Robson, who has been very good since he arrived off the bench, who feeds Tom Curry, who in turns feeds Kyle Sinckler.

Italy at sixes and sevens and Robson whips a big mis-pass away from the base and it is a stroll in for Elliot Daly.

Owen Farrell plugs the kick through the middle.

    That was punchy from Italy.

Federico Mori hits a lovely line, spins out of some pretty flaky England tackling and pops the ball up for Tommaso Allan to charge over.
