That is a shame for Italy. They run the ball from deep in their 22m, Jacopo Trulla dummying and darting out wide.

But Paolo Garbisi is penalised for sealing off the ruck and England kick the penalty into the corner with a minute of the half to go.

    Could be costly...

Mark Mehta: Watson's electric, he is getting some Watts on

Robin Johnson: Same old England, penalty after penalty - except with more running about (and forward passes)

What England need more than anything is practice in passing the ball sympathetically. Not spun aggressively, too high, too low or directly at the player's stomach.

Italy boot into the England 22m. Line-out blue. And it is a Hail Mary throw over the top!

Picked up by Carlo Canna on the burst! England pinned back, 15 metres from their own line.

But that is smart from Billy Vunipola. The number eight takes a sprint at the offside line, times it perfectly and is able to snare Stephen Varney just as the Italy scrum-half is picking up the ball.

I don't care what Grant Shapps says - Ben Youngs can book a summer holiday this year.

England still have not got the hang of the referee. Elliot Daly is off his feet as he tries to protect Jonny May from some hovering blue back-row vultures.

That is a sixth penalty against England so far.

Jon Salinger: Another afternoon of watching England kick away possession every time they get the ball rather than running with it. This is rugby not football

Italy are on the rack here. Wave after wave of England attack in the blue 22.

But a superb salvage job from Johan Meyer as he limpets over the top of Mako Vunipola and secures a lifeline turnover.

Italian defending wasn't the best, but Watson has been busy, elusive, and so powerful off that right foot. England look dangerous when they go through the phases and go wide.

It was very cohesive, lovely hands and what about that offload from Courtney Lawes? Anthony Watson then didn't break stride - his footwork is lovely.

    Anthony Watson (con Farrell)

Watson has looked sharp as a tack so far today.

That was a good counter from England. Firstly, a lovely tip-on pass from Jonny May to spring Henry Slade down one wing. Then the ball swings back across the pitch, Anthony Watson in space and the wing swerves inside the covering Stephen Varney to canter under the posts.

Henry Slade in a footballing foot race for the line as he hacks ahead and chases into the Italy in-goal area.

But the Italy defence do just enough to keep pace and distract the Exeter playmaker.

    22 drop-out for the visitors...

Enjoy ref Mike Adamson using "free-kick" as a verb as he patrols the line-out.

He warms Italy he will "free-kick" them if they close the gap. Which makes it sound like he will welly the guilty party in the delicates. A deterrent certainly.

A promising field position for England goes begging as Ben Youngs bullets a pass at a forward who is so close he could read the brand on his gumshield.

Italy clear up to halfway via a siege gun boot from Garbisi.

They don't need to do it, they don't need to give one away there - you don't need to put hands into the ruck.

Luke Cowan-Dickie's turn to fall foul of ref Mike Adamson. That is the fourth penalty that England have given up inside the first 20 minutes.

This is very kickable and Paolo Garbisi calls for his tee...

Anthony Watson slicing and dicing out wide, all fast-twitch and ankle-icer steps.

But the Bath flier is a little too quick for his own support. Isolated and Maro Itoje is pinged for sealing off the ruck in attempt to preserve England ball.

Itoje is racking up quite the rap sheet so far in the Six Nations.

They had to work the phases, just go with pick and go for 10 phases, Ben Youngs wanted his forwards to do the job and that's exactly what they did.
