  1. Wales hooker Elias welcomes new scrum lawpublished at 14:07 Greenwich Mean Time 5 February 2022

    Ireland v Wales (14:15 GMT)

You might notice a change in scrums during this Six Nations, as World Rugby trials a new law with scrum stability and in particular the hooker ‘brake foot’ the focus.

Both hookers will be required to ensure one foot - the ‘brake foot’ - is extended towards the opposition during the crouch and bind phases of the engagement sequence, with a resulting free-kick if the 'brake foot' is not applied.

Wales hooker Ryan Elias says the new scrum law will help to mitigate the danger and pressure of two 900kg packs’ weight going through hookers necks.

    Ireland v Wales (14:15 GMT)

That's a worrying sight for Wales fans. It looks like wing Louis Rees-Zammit is in a bit of trouble during the warm-up as he has his ankle strapped with some bandage.

Fingers crossed he's fit enough to play.

From the pack to the backs, it's going to be interesting to see how Wales' new-look backline goes today.

Josh Adams moves from the wing to the centre, with Louis Rees-Zammit, Johnny McNicholl and Liam Williams making up a potentially spectacular back three.

Adams says he has "not seen anyone as good" as Rees-Zammit, as the Gloucester wing turns 21.

Made in Swansea, developed by Ospreys, refined by Northampton and now captain of Wales, it has been quite a journey for Dan Biggar.

BBC Sport Wales' Gareth Griffiths has been speaking to the coaches who have helped Biggar grow from a promising schoolboy to a starting Test fly-half for the British and Irish Lions.

It's a lovely piece, and you can read it here.

Quiz graphicImage source, Huw Evans Picture Agency

Fancy a quiz? Everyone likes a quiz, right?

In both 2005 and 2019, Wales' fixtures against Ireland were the final games of the Six Nations, and both ended in Welsh victories to complete Grand Slams.

But can you recall the Mike Ruddock selection which clinched a first clean sweep in 27 years in 2005?

Or Warren Gatland's line-up which made it five wins from five three years ago?

Take our two quizzes and find out.

Colour-blind fans are frustrated by Ireland and Wales' decision to play in their traditional jerseys today, despite guidance aimed at avoiding kit clashes.

Red and green kits are especially hard to tell apart for the one in 12 men and one in 200 women worldwide who are colour blind.

World Rugby has proposed new laws to help people affected by Colour Vision Deficiency, meaning teams may have to change kit from 2027 in the event of a colour clash.

The Irish fans will be confident but you're always wary against Wales. They like having their backs against the wall and have come here to cause an upset.

When have you ever seen the current champions be so underrated going into a Six Nations? But I think Dan Biggar loves that, he's relishing the challenge to prove they're not written off.

BBC Sport has picked out six players set to make their first Six Nations appearances, and you can read all about them here.

As far as today's game is concerned, Irish wing Rob Baloucoune has missed out on selection but Wales flanker Taine Basham starts. Keep an eye on him.

  15. 'I'm even faster this year' - Rees-Zammitpublished at 13:46 Greenwich Mean Time 5 February 2022

    Ireland v Wales (14:15 GMT)

How good were Louis Rees-Zammit's tries in those highlights of last year's Six Nations?

He's a special talent and, having just turned 21 this week, the Wales wing has a warning for his opponents.

"I've probably got faster," says Rees-Zammit.

"We've got a GPS device on the back of our shirts and that measures everything in terms of speed.

"One day I'll be quicker than the other, so I know I'm getting faster."

Both teams will be captained by fly-halves today, and Ireland's skipper is another who likes to speak his mind.

Johnny Sexton says the familiarity between Ireland and Wales players ensures games between the sides always carry an edge, but that the rivalry is not as "nasty" as it once was.

"With us and Wales there have been big battles over the years," Sexton says.

"The rivalry - I think in my early days especially - there was a nastier side to it. Now when you talk about rivalries in sport: Leinster-Munster, all the provinces, we have that rivalry because you don't like losing to the guys closest to you.

"There's probably a little bit of an element of that with the Welsh boys that they get on so well with the Irish boys on Lions tours and after games.

"When you've got relationships like that you don't want to lose to the people you're closest with.

"Not all rivalries are like that. Some of them you're just not close to the other people and you want to beat them."

Six Nations 2022: Wales captain Dan Biggar aims to do his late mother proud

You can usually hear Dan Biggar before you can see him on a rugby field. Whether he's barking orders to his team-mates or speaking to referees, he's not one to hold back.

Off the field, however, he is absolutely lovely. The 32-year-old is friendly, polite and funny - a popular choice as captain.

Today's game will have an added poignancy for Biggar, whose late mother will be at the forefront of his mind.

Biggar lost his mum, Liz, in May last year and says "she would have been over the moon" to see him leading Wales.

  18. Wales have a 'swagger', says Biggarpublished at 13:36 Greenwich Mean Time 5 February 2022

    Ireland v Wales (14:15 GMT)

The absence of Alun Wyn Jones, Ken Owens and others means that Wales have a new captain for this Six Nations.

That man is Dan Biggar, the British and Irish Lions fly-half who could win his 100th Wales cap later in this tournament.

Biggar is a confident character so it should come as no surprise that, despite Wales' myriad issues in the build-up to this game, he says the reigning champions come into it with a "swagger".

"We were written off last year," Biggar points out.

"We are coming into the tournament as defending champions, so there is certainly a bit of a swagger in the group."

Just on those Wales injuries, how's this for a stat?

This is Wales' first Six Nations match-day squad missing both Alun Wyn Jones and Ken Owens since 2010.

The anthem will be a little quieter and less passionate without those two today.
