That's it for our coverage of today's Premiership final.

After a season which began last September with plenty of sides holding hopes of reaching Twickenham, it was Saracens who ended the campaign with the trophy once again.

The game has plenty of issues to address off the pitch following the collapses of Wasps and Worcester.

On it, every other director of rugby in the country will be plotting a way to get past the north Londoners next season.

But now at least the players can enjoy a well-earned break before attention turns to the Rugby World Cup in France in September. Thanks for joining us.

Saracens know better than most how to win big finals and proved again that they can bring out performances when it counts.

Momentum had shifted Sale's way during the first period of that second half, but Saracens didn't ever look panicked.

They grabbed a golden opportunity out of nothing for Elliot Daly's try and after Ivan van Zyl's clincher, they held on when it mattered at the end with 14 men on the pitch.

As is customary, loads of the players' children are all running around the pitch now as family members from both teams celebrate the performance.

As for Sale, the players just did a lap of Twickenham to huge applause from the masses of their fans still here.

Today was a huge step forward for their team and it surely won't be another 17 years before their next final on this showing.

When Sale have their debrief on this game, the final 15 minutes will loom large.

After a period of control, a charged-down kick on the edge of their 22 allowed Elliot Daly in to score and put Saracens 28-25 ahead.

Sale couldn't quite assert themselves after that and when Ivan van Zyl went over it felt like the game was won for Saracens.

Saracens player Jackson Wray, who is now retiring, told BT Sport: "It's really satisfying to go out on top of the game.

"This club has given me everything. It's all I know and it has taught me everything I know in life.

"So I can't finish any better."

The Sarries players are making their way around the pitch to applaud the crowd now.

Wing Sean Maitland is walking with a crutch after being forced off in the first half.

Many who came to Twickenham have already drifted away after the presentation.

The attendance today was 61,875, quite down on capacity at the national stadium.

The travelling Sale fans won't have enjoyed the outcome but their side pushed Sarries hard for most of the game.

The question asked was can Saracens do it on a level playing field.

They won the regular season at a canter, they managed their way through international periods, they rotated the squad and then on the big day, all that experience came to the fore and they sealed the deal.

    Hats off to them.

  8. Sarries dominance continuespublished at 17:18 British Summer Time 27 May 2023

    FT: Saracens 35-25 Sale

It's a first title for Saracens since their relegation in 2019-20 for breaches of the league's salary cap.

But the club kept the majority of their big stars and have returned to the top of the English game.

They may have lost the final to a late drop-goal to Leicester last season, but made their experience count this year.

The numbers are incredible for some of their players.

Full-back Alex Goode has played in all nine of the club's finals and now has six titles to his name.

Owen Farrell and Jamie George, forced off early today with concussion, also have six winners' medals.

Maro Itoje and the retiring Jackson Wray have five final wins apiece.

The champagne corks are popped, the ticker tape streamers and the pyrotechnics go off as Saracens captain Owen Farrell lifts the Premiership trophy.

Saracens are deserved winners of the 2022-23 title.

    It's their sixth title overall.

How many times today did we mention the word experience? It kept coming up and Saracens showed that in abundance.

A fabulous game and congratulations to Sale to bring north west rugby to the fore.

But you have to tip your hat off to Saracens. They thoroughly deserve to be English champions.

Eroni Mawi is then the first Saracens player up to get his medal.

The Fiji prop may not have expected to start the game today, but with Mako Vunipola out of the squad altogether, he took his chance.

There's warm applause as the rest of the squad head forward.

Sale's players make their way forward to collect their runners-up medals.

They aren't the colour they would have wanted at the start of the day, but the Sharks have made great strides over the past two and a half years under Alex Sanderson.

The club are looking to boost their profile - and the game - in the north and today's display should help them do that.

Saracens captain and player of the match Owen Farrell speaking to BT Sport: "This was not redemption. We have moved on from last year, but it gets brought up a lot. It's about getting the best out of ourselves as we felt that we closed up shop a bit in the final last year.

"This just shows how strong the group is. When people come to a club like this, not many people want to leave.

"It feels like a family when you've been together as long as we have and you want to keep fighting for the group to make it a place where people want to stay and fight for 10 or 15 years."

With that outcome to the match, Saracens fly-half Owen Farrell has staked his claim to the number 10 shirt for England at the Rugby World Cup in September.

George Ford was in the thick of things himself, but didn't quite have the opportunity for his kicking game to match the impact it has had over the past few months.

Sale will no doubt want to take the positives from this experience. They went toe-to-toe with Sarries for much of the game and showed great character.

  16. 'Saracens were really classy'published at 17:04 British Summer Time 27 May 2023

    James Mitchell
Former Sale scrum-half, on BBC Radio Manchester

It was exactly what you want from a final, tries, physical battles, a bit of kicking in there as well, so as a spectacle for rugby it was really good.

For me Sale just made too many mistakes, a few knock-ons, a few passes behind, they didn't manage the momentum that well.

Credit to Sarries, you can see why Saracens are six-time Premiership champions. At times they were really classy today and Owen Farrell was a major part of that.

It's been an incredible season for Sale and I'm excited to see where this team is in 12 months time.

Saracens move level with Bath and Wasps, who are now consigned to the basement of English rugby.

Sarries may be four behind Leicester Tigers but there is no denying the north London club are the dominant force in the domestic game.

Sale remain with just the one Premiership title, won on their only previous outing in the final in 2006.
