Another good attacking position for Saracens but then Max Malins spills the ball with a gap opening up in front of him.

But Luke Pearce pulls it back for a knock-on by Sale and Sarries have a scrum about eight metres out.

Saracens then win a penalty at the scrum and Owen Farrell will go for the posts.

A lifeline for Sale after a breath-taking attack from Saracens.

This game is starting to open up, a few more gaps around and a few tired bodies. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a few more changes.

Elliot Daly is not having a good five minutes, his foot is definitely on the line and he had plenty of space. It's a let-off for Sale. It will do a world of good for Sale's confidence, that.

Elliot Daly cuts in from the left flank and over the Sale line for what looks set to be a converted Saracens try.

But the replay comes on the big screen and the British & Irish Lions wing had a foot in touch when he picked up the ball!

    No try!

What was Elliot Daly doing there?

The ball was bobbling around a little bit, but it just needed to be dealt with.

It was a nothing kick from Akker van der Merwe, Sarries had two men back and they got burgled by Tom Roebuck.

Oh wow. That's exactly what happens when you win your 50-50s. The kick is only as good as the chase, and that was a good one.

The tries haven't come from sustained pressure from either team, they have all come from nothing which is very interesting.

Little moments like that are crucial in a game like this. George Ford missing the kick is a big moment too.

Tom Roebuck, con missed George Ford

The box kicks don't look to be coming off for Sale scrum-half Gus Warr but then Akker van der Merwe breaks through the Sarries defence and kicks to the corner.

It's maybe not exactly what he intended but Elliot Daly dithers and fails to gather.

He's slow in reacting and Tom Roebuck kicks ahead and dives acrobatically on the ball to score Sale's second try!

It's out wide on the right and George Ford can't add the extras, narrowly kicking across the posts and wide.

    Saracens 20-13 Sale

The match was momentarily stopped in the first half by two protesters from Just Stop Oil.

They invaded the pitch and threw clouds of orange paint on the Twickenham pitch before being halted and removed by security staff.

One of the pitch invaders was Dr Patrick Hart, a 37-year-old GP from Bristol, who released this statement:

"I am doing this because it's my duty as a doctor. The climate crisis is the greatest health crisis humanity has ever faced. People are dying now and more will die every day unless we stop new oil, gas and coal."

The protest comes after a similar one at the Chelsea Flower Show in midweek, and the World Snooker Championship earlier this year.

The orange paint powder they threw is barely visible now.

Saracens start by getting possession and then there's a bit of a kicking battle for the first time in the game.

In the end Tom Roebuck decides enough is enough and he runs into traffic on halfway.

Sale have the ball and have a chance to move into the Sarries half.

With the teams approaching for the second half, let's have a quick (and very unscientific) straw poll on the outcome.

If you think Saracens will win, hit the thumbs up sign.

For Sale Sharks, go thumbs down...

That last passage of play, Owen Farrell was on the ball more and he is effective and has a great range of passing.

Nick Tompkins, Max Malins, Elliot Daly can do more if Farrell is in there early, conducting his team and driving the momentum.

And in that last period, we saw Farrell grab the game by the scruff of the neck.

Sale received a visit from football managerial legend Sir Alex Ferguson on Monday as part of their motivational build-up for today's game.

The former Manchester United manager visited Sale’s Carrington training base on Tuesday, where he addressed the squad.

Ferguson, 81, won 13 Premier League titles and the Champions League twice amid a trophy-laden 27 years as United boss.

“We thought we would try and wring a little bit of gold out of Sir Alex – and he didn’t disappoint," Sharks director of rugby Alex Sanderson said.

“He had the lads on the edge of their seats and he came up with some real good bits of advice – not new stuff, but when it comes from Sir Alex’s mouth, it is gospel, isn’t it?"

Ferguson was famous for his 'hairdryer' treatment at half-time. What words will Sanderson have to inspire his side to a second-half comeback?

If you're just joining us, here's what happened...

After two penalties apiece by Owen Farrell and George Ford, Sarries took a 13-6 lead through a penalty try.

Sale lost Tom Curry to the sin-bin for the off-the-ball challenge on Max Malins which led to the try.

But Sale hit back through Akker van der Merwe while Curry was off the field to level things once more.

Max Malins then bagged Saracens' second try to put the five-time champions back ahead.

The north Londoners came close to extending their lead before the break.

Sale have to slow Sarries' breakdown, they are playing with decent tempo at the minute. If they can slow it down I think they'll be better defensively.

They need to keep the ball as well, there's been a few knock-ons given away and it's very hard to play rugby without the ball.

I am quite surprised there have been as many points as there have, considering what the last couple of finals have been like.

Some great stuff from both teams. Ignoring the protesters and the break, this is the final we wanted.

Sale were hanging on in there with the man in the bin but that last bit, Saracens showed what they have done in the regular season with Owen Farrell playing first receiver.

It was phase after phase after phase.

But a great final so far.
