Big players have been missing from England's side in recent months.

It is obvious to see George Ford played the game with his life and technically was spot on.

These are the moments when it is not about 'razzle dazzle'.

George Ford is the fly-half with brains and the ability to execute in a game. They [England coaches] are never ever going to admit that Ford gets ever so shackled playing with Owen Farrell, but my view is he needs to be running the team and he needs to be the main man as he has the ability to do it.

Whether it was before the game it looked like he said 'I am in charge leave it to me'.

And that was all she wrote.

England are up and running with a spirited win over Argentina.

Surely that is a big step towards the quarter-finals.

Converted Try - England 27-10 Argentinapublished at 79 mins

    Rodrigo Bruni (con Emiliano Boffelli)

    A late consolation.

Rodrigo Bruni spins close to the England line and powers his way over for the only try of the game.

Emiliano Boffelli makes the conversion and Argentina have something to take into their next game.

Those six penalties, and three drop goals, means George Ford's 27 points haul is his greatest return for England.

Even if the suspended Owen Farrell was available for the next game, could England drop George Ford after that display?

  6. Penalty - England 27-3 Argentinapublished at 75 mins

    George Ford

George Ford kicks his sixth penalty and takes his and England's points tally to 27.

It's his last act of the game as he is replaced by Marcus Smith. What a performance by the England number 10.

More English pressure, more ill-discipline by Argentina.

I wonder what they will choose to do with this penalty, just outside the Argentina 22?

We don't want to get too carried away as the game between France and the All Blacks last night was levels above this. But they will be pleased with the fight and winning areas we haven't won in previous games. Argentina though have been really poor tonight.

This is wild. Hands down the most impressive performance by any team so far in the World Cup given the early red. Where has this come from? Some big hitters to come back in as well

Into the final 10 minutes and England look set to open their World Cup campaign with a victory.

They have been utterly clinical and the 15 men of Argentina have barely laid a glove.

"Swing lowwwwwww," rings out around the stadium.

England learning the painful days Scotland once knew, barely a sniff of a try! Impressive performance grinding out the kicks, but I can’t see it getting any prettier.

Owen Farrell sitting in the stand thinking how am I going to get in that team?

This is the most organised decisive England side we have seen in recent months.

Was that a smile Mr Borthwick?

The England head coach, known for his steely, no-nonsense demeanour, unknowingly gives the camera a smirk as George Ford stretches their lead to 21 points.

Great to see. His side have been dominant.

Just good decision making, this is a very different England side.

I know Ford has kicked them goals, but the decisions made given the conditions and the pressure they are under.

The poor summer series they had, the momentum shift. The confidence shift from this game is huge!

    Death by a thousand cuts?

England have been clinical. Nearly every decision in their favour has been followed by three extra points.

England can do no wrong it seems. Another penalty goes in their favour at the scrum and George Ford gets his hands on the ball again.

But this time it's not for the posts. He opts for the corner, which he finds deep in Argentina territory.

Anon: George Ford showing us what a class act he is finally.

    Simon: George Ford vs Argentina

Catie: I am in absolute awe of England right now and that man George Ford. I thought Jonny Wilkinson was the god of drop goals… he might have some competition for the first time since 2003!

Fair to say George Ford is getting some well-deserved plaudits this evening.

  19. Daly misses the markpublished at 61 mins

    England 21-3 Argentina

Elliot Daly cannot replicate George Ford's success from the tee.

Argentina have continued to struggle for any prolonged possession despite having the man advantage.

England have been so disciplined in defence.

It's another penalty on the halfway line, but this time Elliot Daly is tasked with nudging the ball over the posts.
