    England 17-0 Chile

We spoke before the game about players looking to grab a shirt in the first-choice XV. It's not a bad start from Henry Arundell on that front is it?

  2. try

Try - England 17-0 Chilepublished at 17:17 British Summer Time 23 September 2023

    Henry Arundell

He's on a hat-trick! Owen Farrell taps a quick penalty, Chile aren't set and another pass looped out to Henry Arundell allows him to run in untouched.

Again, Owen Farrell can't convert from right in the corner.

  3. 'More like a training run'published at 17:16 British Summer Time 23 September 2023

    England 12-0 Chile

    Matt Dawson
Former England scrum-half on BBC Radio 5 Live

There are a lot of good things from England here, there has to be a slight caveat that the Chile defence is a little bit softer.

The rucks are quicker and more positive so England can play on the front foot, but it is more like a training run and I do not mean to be disrespectful.

  4. Postpublished at 30 mins

    England 12-0 Chile

That's the looser, free-flowing rugby England are looking for. Max Malins and Marcus Smith beat a tackle each to open up Chile but the ball just gets bogged down. England look to the forwards...

  5. Postpublished at 27 mins

    England 12-0 Chile

Chile need to steady the ship here. England will be very happy with their afternoon's work thus far.

Trace it back to the kick-off, Vunipola carried it in and then England played wide.

The most important thing for me was how they got out of their own half, much better.

  7. converted try

Converted try - England 12-0 Chilepublished at 17:10 British Summer Time 23 September 2023

    Theo Dan (con Owen Farrell)

They made that look very easy. England drive on from a line-out, Theo Dan has the ball in hand and emerges from the pack to touch down.

England maybe just aren't very good and worse for having Farrell back in the side?

  9. Postpublished at 23 mins

    England 5-0 Chile

England get another penalty for a knock on and kick it into the corner straight away. There's much more intent from England so far, albeit against a different standard of opposition perhaps.

  10. 'On the scoreboard at last'published at 17:08 British Summer Time 23 September 2023

    England 5-0 Chile

    Paul Grayson
Former England fly-half on BBC Radio 5 Live

A set play from England was not perfect, but Vunipola gets it away to Farrell and Farrell just lobs it over the top to Arundell.

Nothing spectacular from England, but they are on the scoreboard at last.

  11. try

Try - England 5-0 Chilepublished at 17:06 British Summer Time 23 September 2023

    Henry Arundell

It's simple but it's lovely. England come out of the scrum quickly, Billy Vunipola finds Owen Farell, who lofts a lovely looped pass out wide to Henry Arundell, who runs it in.

Farrell can't add the conversion from a tight angle.

    England 0-0 Chile

England get the shove on, they go for the line but are held up - it's pulled back for an offside though. England don't go for the kick again, they want tries today.

  13. 'Lovely hands from England'published at 17:05 British Summer Time 23 September 2023

    England 0-0 Chile

    Matt Dawson
Former England scrum-half on BBC Radio 5 Live

Lovely hands from England, a good turnover, poor execution in the line-out from Chile.

That is the intent we want to see from England.

    England 0-0 Chile

What a kick from Chile, deep into the England 22 and they'll have the throw as well. Centre Matias Garafulic dances with joy. Can they test England from here?

No, they throw it straight to Billy Vunipola.

  16. Postpublished at 16 mins

    England 0-0 Chile

Unlucky! Hooker Theo Dan breaks a tackle, offloads inside for Danny Care and he can't quite gather it in. Keep hold of that and he scores...

    England 0-0 Chile

England now put together some phases but lose the ball within sight of the posts. The noise is unabating. This is great stuff, despite the scoreline.

  18. 'Chile playing the more enterprising rugby'published at 17:00 British Summer Time 23 September 2023

    England 0-0 Chile

    Paul Grayson
Former England fly-half on BBC Radio 5 Live

Chile are playing the more enterprising rugby and are more cohesive. They are playing the ball into space and passing inside when it is on.

Max Malins needs to get his head in the game, he has had one carry and been stripped of the ball.

  19. Postpublished at 13 mins

    England 0-0 Chile

Clemente Saavedra punches through the England line now, Chile are here to play some rugby today. This may be the best 0-0 of all time at this rate, we've barely had a stoppage.

  20. Postpublished at 12 mins

    England 0-0 Chile

Pace! My word Henry Arundell is sharp. He flies down the right and beats two men but his pass inside is rushed and intercepted. There's a definite flavour of reserves looking to impress but it's an exciting opening 10 minutes or so. Beats two sides kicking lumps out of the ball anyway!
