  1. Red card - Owen Farrell (England)published at 70 mins

    England 16-17 Wales

No surprises as Owen Farrell's tackle is upgraded to a red card. His participation in the opening World Cup match against Argentina on 9 September must be in doubt.

Freddie Steward does return to the pitch, however.

Boos erupt around Twickenham as Tomos Williams goes over for the score.

England have self-destructed with ill-discipline and Wales are rewarded for weathering the England pressure earlier.

They make easy work of the 15 to 12 man advantage.

  4. try

Converted try - England 9-17 Walespublished at 65 mins

    Tomos Williams (con Dan Biggar)

It was only a matter of time.

Dan Biggar has changed this Wales attack as he puts Joe Roberts through a hole, the link play is on the money and like every good scrum-half Tomos Williams is on hand to touch down.

    Biggar lands the conversion.

    England 9-10 Wales

    Ioan Cunningham
Wales Women head coach on BBC Radio Cymru

Wales should have scored there, but that's better from them, that's what we want to see. The fitness levels are showing now.

Sam Parry did brilliantly there but the pass had to come, Tomos Williams was inside him. England are down to 13 so they have to keep the ball alive.

But that challenge from Owen Farrell looks like a red card to me, shoulder to head. He's tackled high with his shoulder going into Taine Basham's head, it has to be a red card.

  6. Sin-bin - Owen Farrell (England)published at 64 mins

    England 9-10 Wales

Owen Farrell is in BIG trouble.

His tackle is high, at force and straight to the head of Taine Basham.

Now with the new laws it will go to an off-field review.

It looks like this one will be upgraded to a red card - what is worse for England is the potential ban...

    Rhys Patchell
Wales fly-half on BBC Radio Cymru

There's not any reason not to give a yellow card. Josh Adams is in the air, Freddie Steward takes his eyes off the ball and tackles him in the air.

The fact he falls on his side means it saves Steward from a red card.

  9. try

Try - Penalty try (Wales)published at 60 mins

    England 9-10 Wales

Josh Adams would have scored the try if it wasn't for the offence so the try is given.

Freddie Steward also joins Ellis Genge in the sin-bin.

    England 9-3 Wales

  12. England 'better when they spread the ball wide'published at 18:59 British Summer Time 12 August 2023

    England 9-3 Wales

    Rhys Patchell
Wales fly-half on BBC Radio Cymru

Warren [Gatland] will be over the moon with that period of scramble defence by Wales. Tommy Reffell is coming back from the sin-bin and England are no further in the lead.

England look so much better when they spread the ball wide. When they go direct Wales are just absorbing them, once they make one or two extra passes they look dangerous.

A huge line-out steal from Courtney Lawes as England regain the ball in search of their first try but Wales snaffle the ball back.

    Owen Williams

Owen Williams reduces the lead with his own penalty to get Wales on the board, with the help of the post.

  20. 'Huge loss for Wales'published at 18:41 British Summer Time 12 August 2023

    England 9-0 Wales

    Rhys Patchell
Wales fly-half on BBC Radio Cymru

With the way England like playing by going direct, losing one of their best tacklers in Tommy Reffell is a huge loss for Wales.

I'm not quite sure how the referee has come to that decision as that's the first penalty of the half and England weren't putting much pressure on Wales. Maybe it's just a combination of those penalties at the end of the first half.
