Wales captain Dewi Lake left the field after 26 minutes after injuring his knee at a ruck.

Wales have World Cup hooker injury concerns with Ryan Elias forced off the field with a hamstring injury during the 20-9 victory over England in Cardiff last weekend.

Lake was replaced by fellow Ospreys hooker Sam Parry at Twickenham with Adam Beard taking over the captaincy.

Elliot Dee is the other hooker in Wales' extended training squad with Ken Owens out of at least the World Cup group stages with a back injury.

It was Lake's first international for 13 months after missing the 2022 autumn internationals and 2023 Six Nations through injury.

The Ospreys hooker had been given the Wales captaincy after Jac Morgan had impressed leading the side last weekend.

Before the game rugby stats expert Russ Petty tweeted:

"Wales have led at half-time once out of 26 Tests against England at Twickenham since 1980."

Well that is now once in 27 Tests.

  7. 'Constant errors making a stop-start game'published at 18:31 British Summer Time 12 August 2023

A few boos around Twickenham as Owen Farrell opted to kick a penalty just on half-time.

After a bright start it’s gone very flat, with constant errors making for an extremely stop-start game.

Let’s hope there is much better to come in France next month.

Warren Gatland will be pleased and his message at half-time will be one of confidence about Wales' defence, it's been very strong today. England have found it very difficult to break that red defensive line.

Gatland puts an emphasis on fitness, he'll be thinking that in the final half hour Wales will be able to go at England.

  10. Half-time - England 6-0 Walespublished at 18:24 British Summer Time 12 August 2023

The loss of captain Dewi Lake to injury is undoubtedly a blow for the visitors.

In terms of wanting a good result here, if they want a positive omen, Wales' most recent win at Twickenham came at the 2015 World Cup - in that match they lost Scott Williams, Liam Williams and Hallam Amos to injury and still achieved a famous victory over the host nation.

For England, although ahead, the loss of Jack van Poortvliet might be huge ahead of the World Cup.

Now Courtney Lawes is down receiving treatment, but he is alright. Steve Borthwick I am sure is getting slightly stressed.

Owen Farrell sends the ball deep into the Wales 22 from a penalty.

  14. Wales' driving maul falters againpublished at 18:15 British Summer Time 12 August 2023

    England 3-0 Wales

    Ioan Cunningham
Wales Women head coach on BBC Radio Cymru

When you start a driving maul you want it to be long and low, Wales were too high there. Again, Wales go to the front of the line-out and England get their arms through and do well to disrupt.

  15. 'England struggle to maintain pressure'published at 18:12 British Summer Time 12 August 2023

    Chris Jones
BBC rugby union correspondent at Twickenham

After a bright start from the hosts threatened to invigorate the near-capacity Twickenham crowd, England have struggled to maintain pressure, regularly coughing the ball up in contact.

The inability to turn territory into points continues to be an issue for Steve Borthwick’s side.

Ellis Genge and Jack Willis were straight there as Jack van Poortvliet left the field, replacing the physios to carry their team-mate to the changing room.

The scrum-half looked devastated to be coming off.

Again, hopefully it's not too serious, but that could be his World Cup over before it starts.
