England slice Scotland down the left as Ryan Bertrand hits the byline before finding Harry Kane. The striker looks destined to find team-mate Dele Alli but can't get the ball from out from under his feet and Scotland survive.

Pre-match, Harry Kane revealed he fancied his chances of plundering a hat-trick at Hampden. The Spurs and England striker has a great chance inside the Scotland penalty area but blazes high over the bar, much to the delight of the Tartan Army.

The first big chance of the game, spurned. It remains goalless.

Scotland cough up possession in midfield and there's a flicker of hope for Manchester United speedster Marcus Rashford to chase down a through ball from Dele Alli but it's too strong and trundles out for a goal kick.

Here come England. Dele Alli dances away from a couple of Scotland challenges before the hosts recover to clear. The Scots then launch a counter attack but Scott Brown balloons a ball intended for the hamster-like scamper of Leigh Griffiths but it sails high out of play.

Gordon Strachan's side, straining at the leash, are pressing England all over the pitch. They force a corner, it's cleared, before Leigh Griffiths forces Joe Hart into a smart save.

James Morrison doesn't look happy after sustaining a knock in that challenge by Kyle Walker. The midfielder, though, indicates to the Scotland bench that he wants to continue.

Record for one of the earliest bookings? Scotland skipper Scott Brown receives a yellow card for a late, sliding challenge on Dele Alli.

"That could've been a red," according to BBC Sportsound pundit Willie Miller.

Scotland striker Leigh Griffiths is already snapping at English heels but the men in red clear their lines. James Morrison then suffers a sore one in a challenge by England full-back Kyle Walker.
