    Scotland v England (17:00)

Former Scotland winger Pat Nevin: "Scotland fans knew they would miss Scott Brown when he took international retirement, because he is a driving force in this side.

"He has played on with more injuries than any player I have ever known and he had every right to take a break. You have to ask yourself what you can do for your country as much as what your country can do for you.

"You look at his age (31), form and fitness compare that to Wayne Rooney, (also 31) - Scott Brown is coming into his best only now."

  5. 'Tierney will be critical'published at 16:50

    Scotland v England (17:00 BST)

    Richard Wilson
    BBC Scotland at Hampden

"Gordon Strachan doesn't tend to be radical, but his team selection raises the prospect of Scotland lining up with three at the back. Kieran Tierney'a position will be critical - the Celtic left-back will either start at right-back or on the right of a back three.

"That need to be resourcefulness tells of the challenge that Strachan faces. He needs to problem solve his own team, before he even considers how to counter an England side that has an excellent record in recent qualifying campaigns.

"Scotland need to find a balance between defending deep and narrow, to stop England using the pace of Marcus Rashford, but also be progressive enough in possession to build some momentum in the game, and amongst the home crowd.

"Stuart Armstrong will be the other pivotal figure, since he is a dynamic midfielder, capable of contributing to all phases of play. The home side have it all to play for, the visitors would be content with a draw."

  10. 'It will be noisy'published at 16:38

    Scotland v England (17:00 BST)

Former England defender Terry Butcher: "Scotland think they can spring a surprise. Hampden is a great stadium, it will be noisy, no doubt about that, the England players could well be intimidated.

"Scotland played well in the 3-0 defeat in November. Scotland pressed England high at Wembley, England tried to play out from the back and they got caught and I don't think that will happen at Hampden. I expect England to go more direct. If England keep their heads they should win."

    Quote Message

Leigh Griffiths is a born goalscorer and I think if he gets opportunities today he will take one. Robert Snodgrass is, technically, a very gifted player and has played at this level for a long time. Stuart Armstrong showed us in the cup final that he can get goals from midfield as well. My only fear is that if we over-commit to attack, England can hit us on the counter and that scares me.

  16. 'England will get a good result' - Waddlepublished at 16:22

    Scotland v England (17:00 BST)

Former England international Chris Waddle on BBC Radio Scotland's Sportsound: "I'm totally confident that England will get a good result here today. Scotland played well at Wembley, but unfortunately for Scotland, they don’t have a goalscorer.

"If you take one of the England strikers, who probably won't play today, and put them up front for Scotland, then I think it would be a close game today.

"If you do all your good work and get to the final third, there's nothing worse for a team when you keep putting the ball in the area and nobody's getting on the end of it or do get on the end of it and miss the chances."

  18. 'War paint isn't enough to beat England'published at 16:12

    (Scotland v England 17:00 BST)

"Shouting and putting on the war paint isn't good enough to beat a quality team like England," says former Scotland manager Craig Brown.

Brown's Scotland won 1-0 at Wembley in 1999 but were unable to overturn the 2-0 deficit from the first leg of their Euro 2000 play-off.

"The 'Braveheart stuff' isn't enough," Brown believes. "It's a calm assurance and an authority which will win the game and I'm sure Gordon will instil that in his players.

"I always am very confident," added Brown. "I think we're capable of winning 2-1," Brown told BBC Scotland.

"I'm the eternal optimist I'm genuinely confident. I think I share Gordon Strachan's feeling that we can win."
