    John Parrott

Selby moves to within two frames. His break of 55 helps him take the opening frame and he even has the confidence for some black-ball showboating, where he plays his shot off the cushion to pot the black and entertain the Crucible crowd.

O'Sullivan does not look amused, but Selby, who seemed exhausted yesterday, is in a mood to enjoy his day today.

The first frame of the afternoon session lasted 20 minutes and 34 seconds. The success pot ratio players after the first frame of Monday's play is now level at 90% each.

  4. 50 break - Selbypublished at 14:26 British Summer Time 5 May 2014

Mark Selby battled and hung in there yesterday even though he struggled at times and only made a top break of 62.

Well, he has not bettered that but he has already made a break of 55 today and leads 59-35 with four balls left.

You don't have to be inside the Crucible to be watching the snooker, but obviously it helps.

A large screen has been put up just outside the arena for those fans that were not lucky enough to get tickets.

The atmosphere during frames at the Crucible is slightly more sedate than some of his group's big hits, such as Number of the Beast, and Run to the Hills.

  10. An omen for Selby?published at 14:11 British Summer Time 5 May 2014

Leading a World Snooker Championship final 10-7 doesn't necessarily guarantee victory.

Judd Trump was 10-7 up against John Higgins at the end of the first day's play in 2011, but then lost six frames in the third session before going on to lose 18-15.

That final is the only final in the last nine years where the person trailing overnight has gone on to win the tournament.

  14. An omen for O'Sullivan?published at 14:05 British Summer Time 5 May 2014

Will history repeat itself today after Ronnie O'Sullivan led 5-3 and 10-7 against Mark Selby?

O'Sullivan won his last two World Championship titles having been 5-3 and 10-7 up against Barry Hawkins in 2013 and Ali Carter in 2012.

Only six players have come back from trailing overnight to win since the first-to-18 finals were introduced in 1980.

Stephen Hendry overcame a 10-6 deficit against Jimmy White in 1992, while Shaun Murphy also achieved the same feat against Matthew Stevens in 2005.

However, defending champion O'Sullivan took the next four frames as Selby looked finished at 8-3 down. But the Jester produced a spirited fightback as he won four of the last six frames to end the day 10-7 behind.
