Some pretty impressive numbers below. Crazy to think he reached his first semi-final at the Crucible in 1996. Like a good vintage wine he has got better with age though.

Oh and did I mention that his career win ratio is 75%, which is higher than both Steve Davis (63%) and Stephen Hendry (69%).

Ronnie O'Sullivan wins sixth world title

Kyren Wilson speaking to BBC Sport: "I am 28-years-old. I am not going to beat myself up too much I am playing the greatest of all time. It was a dream come true knowing I was playing Ronnie in the final.

"You can’t respect him too much or he’ll walk right over me, which is what happened today. I have the two most important people to me sat right here.

"I am a fighter, I always will be. I really struggled in the first session and I just relaxed and let the shackles off. I’m just annoyed they would not let me play the whole match last night."

Is that a touch of nervousness creeping in? Ronnie O'Sullivan misses an easy black.

But Kyren Wilson can't get a position on the black after caressing a red into the middle.

And he's left Ronnie with a long red to get going again.

That looks a bit short of pace from Kyren Wilson, whose attempted safety leaves Ronnie O'Sullivan with a starter.

    Great chance this.

  14. Title sponsorship extendedpublished at 19:35 British Summer Time 16 August 2020

A quick snippet for you before we get to the real thing...

Prior to the final session the World Snooker Tour announced that Betfred has extended its deal as title sponsor of the World Championship until 2022.

WST chairman Barry Hearn said: "I think we should say publicly how pleased we are.

“It’s a time for standing up and being counted. I think it is the real world that people like Fred (Done) and I have always worked in.

"We are good blokes to have in the trenches when times are tough. And times are tough because Covid-19 is not going away and we have to remember who our friends are.”

    Talking of music...

This is not the first time that Ronnie O'Sullivan has called the tune at the Crucible.

Bar a few grey hairs he looks exactly the same as in 2001.

  18. What's Ken pulled out of his sock drawerpublished at 19:29 British Summer Time 16 August 2020

    O'Sullivan 17-8 Wilson

I know Ronnie O'Sullivan could potentially wrap up a sixth-world title tonight etc....

But to be honest the burning question I have at the moment is exactly what has come out of Ken Doherty's sock drawer.

The 1997 champion has been in fine form during the tournament and he hasn't let me down this evening either.

Not as colourful as usual but clearly giving the final session the respect it deserves.

There was a lot of chat earlier in this match about Ronnie O'Sullivan's cue action.

But boy did he deliver earlier at the expense of Kyren Wilson, who one or two have suggested could benefit from a chat with the Crucible King himself, Stephen Hendry.

    Australia's 2010 winner reckons it's not a bad shout.
