"It's a bit fresher on Chatrier after that brief rain interruption but definitely still shorts weather, or if you're Maria Sharapova - new dress weather. The Russian was bemoaning the fact that she had been forced to cover her latest outfit with another layer all week, but it's getting an outing this afternoon. Fashion fans might have to drink it in while they can as the 2012 champion isn't hanging around, 3-0 up in no time."

Maria Sharapova makes early inroads into Paula Ormaecha's serve. The seventh seed takes her seat for the change of ends with a 3-0 advantage and a break of serve in her back pocket.

Her Argentine opponent has lost all three of her previous meetings with top-10 ranked players.

Maria Sharapova has polished off the first game of her meeting with Paula Omaechea as the action gets going again on Court Philippe Chatrier.

Elsewhere Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is serving first against 2013 Wimbledon semi-finalist Jerzy Janowicz on Suzanne Lenglen. Tsonga reached the semi-finals for the first time at Roland Garros last year.

If you take the Andy Murray-Wimbledon timeline as a template then by around 2018 they should have a successor to Yannick Noah as the last French winner of the men's title.

Tomas Berdych is a stubborn man. Despite the weather being more Hunstanton than Hawaii, he still persisting with his controversial floral print shirt.

The Czech sixth seed is just bopping down some practice serves ahead of the resumption of his match against Roberto Bautista Agut.

After some officials have taken a peer at the skies and presumably someone backstage puts a call in to Le Bureau d'Met (no need to look that one up, that is definitely what it is called), the players are back out on court.

Covers being gently peeled back and the prospect of play restarting is growing.

American teenager Taylor Townsend, whose debut Grand Slam campaign came to an end against Carla Suarez Navarro earlier today, has been mulling over whether she would like to play at Wimbledon in July. For about a nano-second.

"If I got a wildcard into Wimbledon, I would pass out right now. Honestly, that would make my day. Wow," she said.

"Wimbledon is like my favourite tournament, I swear. That would mean the world to me. I just love the tournament so much, I love the grass, I love the atmosphere.

"That would, oh my God, I'll probably cry. I'm not a crier either. So that means a lot."

Should we put you down as a 'maybe'?

"The quick burst of heavy rain comes as something of a shock on what had been the best day of the tournament so far. It's as though the rain gods had been desperate to see the end of Federer and Djokovic's matches before doing their worst. Sharapova and Ormaechea had made it to 40-40 when they had to make a swift exit from Chatrier but, despite there still being plenty of umbrellas up, the covers are optimistically being taken off."

The rumour is that our man in Paris may have opted for shorts today. Brits abroad eh? If we are not lobster red with sunburn, we are a shade of pneumonia blue through optimistic dressing.

They had been soldiering on on the outside courts, but the rain shows no sign of letting up. Tomas Berdych, two sets to the good against Roberto Bautista Agut, gets the hook on Court Two.

John Isner, who leads 7-6 (15-13) 5-6, in a typically lengthy meeting with Tommy Robredo is heading inside off Court One.

One hour and 39 minutes already on the clock in that one.

Just as Novak Djokovic beats a retreat to the locker room, the clouds, which have been bruising up threateningly all day, dump their payload over the show courts.

Play suspended on Philippe Chatrier where Maria Sharapova is 40-40 as she serves in the opening game of her meeting with Paula Ormaechea. Jo-Wilfired Tsonga and Jerzy Janowicz are kept waiting on Suzanne Lenglen.

"It was a shame it ended on a double fault. I'm not surprised he then looked back at the person in the crowd who shouted out. Cilic put up a terrific fight. Djokovic played well in patches, but he did well enough and found a way to make it through, as all the quality players can do."

  14. Djokovic through to fourth roundpublished at 15:26 British Summer Time 30 May 2014

Double fault! Can you believe it? Marin Cilic nets with his second serve, turning around to stare at the crowd behind him, from where a shout of distraction came moments before. Whatever the finish, the bottom line is that Novak Djokovic is through to the fourth round, albeit after a bit of a scrap.

Oooohhh, two big moments. Cilic 30-15 up, serving to stay in the match. Twice he goes long, the second a correct overrule from the chair. Match point...

As Cilic bounces the ball for what could be his final game of the tournament, I can tell you that Maria Sharapova has begun her match against Paula Ormaechea, while Tomas Berdych is taking Roberto Bautista Agut to school. The sixth seed is two sets up.

Djokovic, ticking in sky blue, races to 40-0 and a long forehand is only a minor blip in a hold to 15. The world number asks Cilic to serve to stay in the match.

As the clock hits the three-hour mark, Djokovic is being asked to scamper. Still, further errors from the hulking Croat keep Djokovic in it. Coach Ivanisevic looks pained in the box, but he needed be worried. Cilic is level at 4-4.

"Djokovic was pretty wound up in that last game. Cilic has played some aggressive tennis out here. It's rare for a player to be able to dictate the play against Djokovic."

  20. Cilic breakspublished at 15:13 British Summer Time 30 May 2014

Another break point saved, but good play by the lemon-clad Cilic sees Djokovic go big on the stretch. Third break point. First serve long...second serve, Cilic advancing and volleying a winner. We are back on serve in this fourth set. Djokovic shrugs his shoulders, knowing it's a just a little longer before he can hit the showers.
