Ajla Tomljanovic, who defeated third seed Agnieszka Radwanska: "After seeing the two first seeds [Serena Williams and Li Na] go out, you kind of feel like 'I can do this too'. "I grew up with these girls that are beating them.

"I went on the stadium for the first time, and Radwanska kind of feels like home there, because she's been there a lot more than I did. I went out there, and I really, inside really thought I could win.

"I think that showed and it is why I won."

    Hang on a cotton pickin'....

Marin Cilic does a number on Novak Djokovic's serve early in the first set and has a 2-1 lead and the balls on his racquet.

The start of yet another upset or just a early hiccup from the men's second seed?

Elsewhere Ernests Gulbis has done the business on Radek Stepanek, packing away the Czech 6-3 6-2 7-5.

Gulbis will play either Roger Federer or Dmitry Tursunov in the next round. That pair are still on serve on Philippe Chatrier.

One of the many fun facts about Ernests: his parents, one of Latvia's richest families, named him after author Ernest Hemingway.

Novak Djokovic is safely through his opening service game to 30 against Marin Cilic.

Cilic, who reached the last eight in Barcelona in his best result in the run-in to this one, is wearing a shirt and shoes combo so luminous that they are practically throbbing.

Daniel Curtis: Not gonna doubt the king of clay at roland garros. Nadal for the mens. Think Halep can get through the tougher half to win!

Stephanie Siu: Novak Djokovic and Ana Ivanovic. A Serb double. I have a second cousin who's half Serbian so there's my link..

Kayley Jay: I think right now the dark horse has to be Sam Stosur. In form, has history at the French - second major maybe?

"The women's tournament is wide open now. I was at Ajla Tomljanovic's press conference. She said there was a feeling anybody can beat anybody and said that she respects the big name players but doesn't fear them. As for Radwanska, she never really looked comfortable. Her game doesn't match up to the surface. With Serena and Li Na out, this would have been a golden opportunity for her first Grand Slam, but it all got too much for her."

Dmitry Tursunov is not going to die wondering this afternoon. 15-30 up on the Federer serve he is flaying forehands from behind the baseline, as he attempts to hurry his opponents out of his rhythm.

He has bitten off a little more than he can chew though, pumping long and letting Fed off the hook. Federer styles out that semi-sticky situation and in the posh seats Mirka looks unconcerned as she flicks through the day's programme.

You haven't missed much on the main stage. Roger Federer and Dimitry Tursunov have exchanged pretty straightforward service games before heading for a sitdown and change of ends.

And it is another shock in the women's draw, albeit not on the scale of Agnieszka Radwanska's exit. Australian 19th seed Sam Stosur, who was runner-up in 2010 and reached the semi-finals in 2009 and 2012, has beaten Dominika Cibulkova 6-4 6-4.

She will play the winner of Maria Sharapova and Paula Ormaecha's match in the fourth round.

Stosur's win means it is time for Novak Djokovic to get lively. The second seed is up against Marin Cilic next on court.

Dmitry Tursunov is on the wrong end of a 4-0 head-to-head record against Roger Federer and has never got through to the fourth round at the French Open before.

It doesn't bode well for the 31-year-old Russian.

He is rocking a nice retro blue shirt though.

Roger Federer and Dmitry Tursunov are knocking up. The pair of them look in relaxed mood, having a bit of a giggle at the net before retreating to hit a few groundstrokes.

Federer's coach, or at least one of them alongside Severin Luthi, Stefan Edberg is in the stands to watch.

There has been drama already on the main stage though.

With the top two seeds, Serena Williams and Li Na, already on their way home, third seed Agnieszka Radwanska has joined them in making an early departure.

The Pole has come a cropper against Croatia's Ajla Tomljanovic who is making her first appearance in the main draw. It was not even a struggle for the 21-year-old as she held her nerve to win 6-4 6-4.

Roger Federer's backhand is a shot of such beauty, it seems that camera lenses shatter as they try and capture it.

While the chatter has been about whether Novak Djokovic can topple Rafael Nadal in the men's draw, his royal Swissness has been serene as ever.

Straight sets wins over Lukas Lacko and Ds Schwartzman have brought him to the last 32 and a meeting with Dmitry Tursunov.

They are up next on Court Philippe Chatrier.
