Novak Djokovic posed more danger to himself than to the Roger Federer serve is that game. He almost comes to grief against the net post as he skates on one of the few remaining patches of green on the parched court. No harm done though and he picks himself off the floor and dusts down.

"With the sun now baking down at SW19 spectators on the Hill are having to get creative in the hunt for shade. Tea-towels, T-shirts and even pieces of paper are being deployed as makeshift head-scarves."

That was the service game of a man who has seen the winner's enclosure on the horizon. A hold to love that meant title-winning business from Novak Djokovic.

Roger Federer landed with 83% of his first serves and chalked up 13 aces in that set. He is red-lining it and still being overtaken by Novak Djokovic.

It doesn't bode well for the Swiss. He will have to do it in five.

"Federer has no recent track-record of going the distance. We haven't seen either player dip, but that was the worst patch of play we've seen from Federer. We haven't seen Djokovic lose his level. If he does, it's a question if Federer can jump on that."

Adam:, external This Wimbledon final is amazing. Both players hitting the ball so well. Come on Federer...

Timothy Walton:, external Fair to say, that Federer forehand is not as reliable as it once was...

Now then. Federer back in the breaker as he catches the merest bit of line for 4-3. He hands the mini-break straight back with a horrible forehand though. Djoko takes advantage as he nudges to 5-4. Hold the next two serves and the set is his.

One down. Two sets points for Djokovic. Back and forth they batter. And Fed floats long!

  8. Tie-break updatepublished at 16:31 British Summer Time 6 July 2014

Serve is still king for the first four points as we roll to 2-2 without a rally breaking out. Federer to the net behind his own serve. Djokovic flicks the backhand down the line and it lands for a mini-break and a 3-2 lead. Federer with a look at the second serve, but prods long. Unforgiveable. 4-2 Djokovic at the swap of ends.

Boris is already doing the tie-break maths.

His boss and pupil puts together a finely crafted point to move to 30-0, picking his moment perfectly to come in and put away the volley. A crackerjack serve spits up Federer's nostrils before the Swiss dumps a forehand wide.

    Shootout-o-clock.

Stuart Smith:, external Loving the Wimbledon final. Like a game of chess on the grass right now.

Ross Parker:, external Federer has clearly spent a lot of time working on his serve. It's unplayable. I can't see how Djokovic is going to break him.

Adelugba Taiwo:, external Here they are breathing down on each other's neck, toe to toe like in the first set. We are in for a long distance I guess.

    Tim Henman
Former British number one on BBC TV

"It's not only amazing to see 90 winners in only the third set but there have only been 28 unforced errors from both players so far."

Where do you think you are going?

Roger Federer is already on his way towards his stool after serving what thinks is an ace at 40-30. Not so fast. Djokovic invokes the gods of Hawk-Eye and it was a fraction wide.

The ushers return to their seats, Federer returns to the court and Djokovic has another life in the game.

Twice he forces break point from deuce. Twice Federer pegs him back with service power. Djokovic shouts in frustration as the ball kicks up off a line on the first.

You can understand his frustration. The Federer serve is purring and chances are few and far between. The Swiss clouts down his 19th and 20th ace of the match to snuff out the danger.

"Ah, I've got him this time," thinks Roger Federer as he parks himself front and centre at the net at 15-0 down and with Novak Djokovic stretched out wide.

    Afraid not Mr Federer.

A doozy of a forehand pass cuts the seven-time champion off in his prime. Djokovic does the same off the opposite wing on the next point. Federer's faith in the merits of net play are being severely tested.

It is giving Djokovic something to think about, but the Serb is getting his head around it pretty quickly.

"At this stage, when both players are in a real groove, you don't see players changing things to put the opponent off. Gamesmanship that is completely legal. Hold the play up, pretend the ball-boy has dropped the ball. When someone is on a roll, you have to try to get them out of the rhythm."

Joseph Burns:, external If Federer is going to win this I think he'll need the tie-breaks, can't see Djokovic being broken.

Dan Simmonds:, external The @rogerfederer backhand is still a thing of beauty!

Bish, bosh, bash. Roger Federer holds to love.

It is even-stevens between the two players, but serve is giving return a right old hammering out there.

  17. Postpublished at 16:12 British Summer Time 6 July 2014

Novak Djokovic chucks down his own love service hold. The crowd ohh and aww as his final serve gets a top-edge off the Federer frame and is pouched by a fielder in the second tier.

    Jimmy Connors

"After yesterday's final, which was over very quickly, to see two champions play sometimes you can be disappointed but these two champions are the type to match the expectations."

  19. Postpublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 6 July 2014

Roger Federer has put that little disagreement with the officials behind him. Whistle-stop hold and it feels as if you can pencil that tie-break into your diary for 15 minutes time.

Here is a rare one for your i-Spy book of tennis. Roger Federer is looking a little ruffled here, a little miffed.

Love-15 up on the Novak Djokovic serve, his deep forehand is called long just before the Serb hooks horribly wide. Video replays show that it actually caught a sniff of line. Would Djokovic have returned if the line-judge had said nothing? Probably not. But they replay the point as convention demands and Djokovic wins it.

Federer is still shaking his head as the game disappears down the swanny.
