Serena Williams, speaking to BBC TV's Rishi Persad after beating Anna Tatishvili 6-1 6-2: "Last time I played Anna Tatishvili, she ended the match by making it really tough. Today, she started where she finished in that match. She can hit the ball really hard, but I was ready for that.

"I fell so many times during the match, which was weird but it was probably just a case of getting my bearings. I didn't play much grass-court tennis last year. I think I'll be OK.

"The reaction from the crowd has been great. I love playing at Wimbledon. You dream of playing here when you're really young. To still be playing here is a great honour for me. Every time I step out on that court, it makes me want to keep coming back here for years and years and years."

"This Centre Court is still slippery. The players will start to feel more comfortable on it by it about day five. You'll start to see more brown patches as the grass gets worn away, and that's actually easier to play on. We used to see it get very worn at the T of the service box, but that is no longer the case, because of the way players play on or behind the baseline."
