"A quick nip outside for a sandwich tells me that all eyes are on Centre Court, even for those people that can't be there.

"There is no more space on the hill" cries one guard, while another shifts those patrons who dare stand still long enough to take a peek at the big screen. Inside a slightly subdued Court One, Novak Djokovic already has a break."

Three blokes in the crowd there with Cashesque headbands and faux mullets. Great when you're on Centre, not so clever when you're at Waterloo East at 11.20pm waiting for the last rattler to Gravesend. Rapid hold from Murray, sweet relief to his massed ranks of support but no more than the first step on a very long march back.

"It is interesting going into the second set looking at the two players. Dimitrov has to stay positive and continue to play the same kind of tennis and not get too aggressive. But Murray can't let his head hang he needs to get playing and get back in this match as soon as he can."

  5. GAME AND FIRST SETpublished at 13:55 British Summer Time 2 July 2014

Gasps of fearful astonishment as Murray muffs a forehand into the net. Two set points, a mere 24 minutes gone. Murray into the net off a nice deep slicey approach, one saved; he's in the next point, but curiously passive, and Dimitrov can thrash away the most straightforward of smashes for the set. Worried? You should be - nine unforced errors from Murray in that set, the champion winning only 50% of points on his first serve.

If it was flat before, it's knee-knockingly nervous now. Murray, shipwrecked in the lonely green sea beyond the baseline, has no answer to the Dimitrov assault - tame backhand into the net, tamer second serve crashed back past him. 78 mph? Nowhere near enough mustard. Three break points to take the Bulgarian within a hold of the first set, and he needs only one - Murray's record of never having lost a set in the championships thus far looks to be going up in smoky flames...

  7. Murray v Dimitrovpublished at 13:49 British Summer Time 2 July 2014

    Jimmy Connors
Two-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC TV

"The box can't help Andy Murray, he is down there on his own. They can't do anything now, all the work should have been before. He has to focus and get his mind on his job and get back into this set."

  8. Postpublished at 13:46 British Summer Time 2 July 2014

Dimitrov at a canter, rumbling along like a man made for Centre Court fun. Murray nowhere near a sniff of the break-back, and as the players go to their chairs a curiously flat atmosphere envelops the old arena.

Andrew Neill:, external This match is decided by Murray's first serve % and speed. Needs to keep both high in which case wins in 4.

Matthew Vernon:, external Has anybody paid any attention to this tournament whatsoever? Andy's on fire! Straight sets.

Small Man Peaky:, external Murray in 3. Dimitrov has looked good but Andy looks so comfortable at SW19. whoever goes through his and Djoko's semi will win.

  10. Postpublished at 13:44 British Summer Time 2 July 2014

Uh-oh - Murray in early trouble, Dimitrov's lashing one-handed backhand driving him back, Murray's own backhand dying in the cruel embrace of the net. Break point, Dimi coming into a short forehand, powering it out wide, Murray desperately trying a backhand pass but stretching it wide. Break taken; aghast silence around Centre.

Kim Sears isn't late to her seat - this picture was taken before we began. Punchy from Dimitrov, coming in behind slashing serves out wide to crunch away running volleys and then burying an overhead as Murray mis-calibrates a backhand lob.

  15. Postpublished at 13:34 British Summer Time 2 July 2014

So here we go. Murray in white cap, bringing memories of that Sunday afternoon a year ago. He's into the young pretender in his opening service game on Centre, scooting in to a drop shot and whipping a forehand winner over the net and onto the baseline. Dimi wobbling a little, Murray looking to control the pace of the rallies from way behind the baseline, and Dimi throws in a choice backhand slice to exploit that. Promising opening exchanges.

  16. Bouchard reactionpublished at 13:33 British Summer Time 2 July 2014

Eugenie Bouchard on her semi-final with Simona Halep: "I am excited she is a very good player so I am definitely ready for another tough match, I am so pleased to reach the semi-finals again but I was to go one step further this time around."

"That was an amazing match by Eugenie, so mature, she served so well and had terrific penetration on her ground strokes. It has been a superb tournament by Angelique Kerber too, who was excellent in beating Maria Sharapova but Bouchard was too strong.

"We expected big things from her bit not many expected it to happen so quickly in 2014."

Eugenie Bouchard departs Court One in flurry of kisses, grins and waves. Angelique Kerber had a break point in the final game, but the young Canadian was not having any of it.

Bouchard hauls Kerber back within range and seals the game courtesy of a German pass flying wide.
